American League Preview from The Sports Network

Tuesday, June 18th (All times eastern)

Chicago White Sox (29-38) at Minnesota Twins (30-36), 8:10 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Chicago - Dylan Axelrod (3-4, 4.26) Minnesota - Mike Pelfrey (3-6, 6.12)

(Sports Network) - The Chicago White Sox will continue their 10-game road trip Tuesday with the first of three straight games against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field.

The White Sox ended a four-game slide and salvaged the finale of a four-game series against the Houston Astros with Monday's 4-2 win thanks to a big four- run sixth inning. Paul Konerko had an RBI and Dayan Viciedo later stroked a bases-clearing triple in the fourth.

Nate Jones got the final out in the fifth and pitched a scoreless sixth to earn the win for Chicago.

"He's been great for us," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said of Jones.

Jose Quintana got the start and gave up two runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Dylan Axelrod will pitch for the Pale Hose Tuesday and he hopes to even his 3-4 mark through 13 starts. Axelrod is 0-1 in his past three appearances and did not receive a decision in last Monday's 10-6 win over Toronto, as he permitted six runs and eight hits in four innings.

Axelrod beat the Twins on May 15 with 5 1/3 innings of three-run ball in a 9-4 triumph and is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in three career games (1 start) against them.

Minnesota has lost five of its last eight games and is 3-3 so far on a nine- game road trip.

The Twins dropped two of three games in Detroit over the weekend and dropped a 5-2 decision Sunday. P.J. Walters absorbed the loss for allowing four runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings.

"My job is to pitch better than them, and I didn't do it today," said Walters

Brian Dozier homered and finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored in defeat. The Twins were outhit, 11-3.

Taking the mound for Minnesota Tuesday will be Mike Pelfrey. Pelfrey is winless in his last seven outings (0-3) and hasn't prevailed since May 5 at Cleveland. The big right-hander pitched well in a no-decision last Wednesday in a 4-3 win versus Philadelphia and gave up only three runs in seven innings.

Pelfrey has allowed at least three runs in four straight starts and lost to the White Sox back on May 15, when he yielded five runs in four innings of a 9-4 setback. It was his first appearance against the White Sox.
