Cahill to rejoin D-backs' rotation

Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Arizona Diamondbacks have brought back Trevor Cahill after a five-week banishment to the minors, recalling the former All-Star hurler from Triple-A Reno on Monday.

Cahill, who was removed from Arizona's starting rotation in mid-April and later demoted to the minor leagues in early June, will start the Diamondbacks' first game following the All-Star break Friday against the Chicago Cubs.

An 18-game winner with the Oakland Athletics in 2010, Cahill went 0-4 with an 11.25 earned run average through his first four starts of this season to prompt a move to the bullpen. The right-hander eventually accepted an assignment to the minors in an effort to work out his struggles.

Cahill earned the promotion by going 2-1 with a 3.18 ERA over his final three starts at Reno. In six overall outings with the Aces, the 26-year-old produced a 2-2 record with a 3.49 ERA.

Prior to being sent down, Cahill compiled a 1-6 record with a 5.66 ERA over 19 games with Arizona.

Pitcher Mike Bolsinger was returned to Reno to make room for Cahill's addition. The rookie right-hander has lost his last four starts and has been tagged for 12 runs -- 10 earned -- and 18 hits in 8 2/3 innings over his two most recent efforts.
