National League Game Summary - Atlanta at New York

(Sunday, May 26th)

Final Score: New York 4, Atlanta 2

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Ike Davis' two-run single in the eighth inning lifted the New York Mets past the Atlanta Braves, 4-2, in the finale of a three-game set at Citi Field.

After Justin Turner opened the Mets' half of the eighth with a base hit and David Wright struck out, Lucas Duda hit a ground-rule double down the line in left to put two on with one out. John Buck followed with a base hit to bring Turner around and reliever Cory Gearrin (1-1) hit Mike Baxter with a pitch to load the bases.

Davis, who entered the contest with just two hits over his last 44 at-bats, then smoked a single to right field to push two runs across and break a 2-2 tie.

"They wanted me to have fun again. Smile more, laugh on the field," Davis said. "And I am now 1-for-1 with the new approach."

Davis finished the game with two hits and Duda went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored for the Mets, who put the brakes on a five-game skid.

LaTroy Hawkins (1-0) earned the win after tossing a scoreless top of the eighth inning. Bobby Parnell hurled a perfect ninth to pick up his seventh save of the season.

Dan Uggla hit a two-run homer for the Braves, who had their eight-game winning streak snapped.

The contest had all the makings of a pitchers duel as the Braves' Julio Teheran and the Mets' Shaun Marcum navigated through the opposing lineups with relative ease.

"Marcum really knows how to pitch -- every aspect of the word pitching. He's very patient. He knows his strengths, knows his weaknesses, and he had just unbelievable command," Uggla said of Marcum.

Teheran made his first mistake of the game in the fourth inning as he served up a leadoff homer to Duda. It was New York's first hit of the game. The right-hander settled down from there, allowing just three base runners until he was replaced by Luis Avilan with two outs in the seventh.

Marcum, who has been struggling all season, was nearly lights out until surrendering a two-run blast to Uggla in the seventh inning that let Atlanta take the lead.

The right-hander was able to get escape the inning without anymore damage. Over seven frames, Marcum gave up just four hits and struckout a career-high 12 batters without issuing a walk.

Game Notes

Marcum (0-5) remains winless on the season. His last victory came Oct. 1 2012 against the San Diego Padres ... Marcum, who didn't make it through five innings in his first three starts of the season, has gone at least six innings in each of last three starts ... Atlanta has 65 homers through 49 games this season.
