American League Game Summary - Chicago at Cleveland

(Wednesday, July 31st)

Final Score: Cleveland 6, Chicago 5 (10 innings)

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Carlos Santana's solo home run in the 10th inning lifted the Cleveland Indians past the Chicago White Sox, 6-5, in the third contest of a four-game series from Progressive Field.

Santana led off the bottom of the 10th by blasting a full-count fastball from Dylan Axelrod (3-7) into the right-field seats for the Indians' ninth walk-off win of the year.

"I was looking for a fastball," Santana said. "I just made good contact."

Chris Perez (4-1) pitched a scoreless top of the 10th to earn the victory for the Indians, winners of a season-high seven straight games.

Jason Kipnis and Santana each drove in two runs while Michael Brantley and Michael Bourn each added an RBI for Cleveland, which has won seven consecutive meetings against the White Sox as well.

Jeff Keppinger drove in two runs while Alexei Ramirez, Alex Rios and Adam Dunn added an RBI each for the White Sox, who have dropped six in a row.

Chicago broke a 3-3 tie in the ninth inning. Conor Gillaspie's two-out base hit chased starter Corey Kluber from the mound. Dayan Viciedo greeted Cody Allen with a single to center to put runners on the corners. After a Gordon Beckham walk loaded the bases, Keppinger stepped in as a pinch-hitter and knocked a two-out, full-count fastball into center to make it 5-3 White Sox.

"Tonight is 100-percent my fault," Reed said. "It's something new every night."

He surrendered a double to Brantley and plunked Jason Giambi in the elbow to start the frame. Drew Stubbs beat out a bunt to load the bases with no outs. Bourn and Kipnis connected on sac flys to tie the game. Reed struck out Asdrubal Cabrera with the winning run at third to send the game into extras.

The Indians jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first. Bourn slapped a double to the left-center field gap, Nick Swisher singled to put runners on the corners and Kipnis plated Bourn on a groundout to second.

Brantley connected on a full-count fastball that rolled to the left-center field warning track for an RBI double in the fourth. Mike Aviles, who reached on a single, scored to double the lead.

With runners on the corners and two outs in the fifth, Santana doubled on a line drive to left to make it 3-0 Indians.

The White Sox tied the game in the sixth inning. Josh Phegley led off with a single and crossed the plate on a Ramirez double to left. Back-to-back RBI base hits up the middle from Rios and Dunn knotted the game at 3-3.
