National League Game Summary - Miami at San Francisco

(Saturday, June 22nd)

Final Score: San Francisco 2, Miami 1 (11 innings)

San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Pinch-hitter Hector Sanchez hit the game- winning single in the bottom of the 11th inning and the San Francisco Giants defeated the Miami Marlins, 2-1, in the third game of a four-game set.

Mike Dunn (2-2) started the 11th for the Marlins, but gave up an infield single to Gregor Blanco and was relieved. After a sacrifice bunt by Marco Scutaro, Buster Posey hit an infield single and Hunter Pence was intentionally walked, loading the bases.

Sanchez then delivered a blooper to left, scoring Blanco, and giving the Giants their first victory against Miami at AT&T Park since July 28, 2010.

Sandy Rosario (2-0) allowed one hit in 1 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the win. Starter Barry Zito pitched seven innings, giving up one run on six hits and two walks.

"It was huge, the pitching really picked us up today," said Pence. "Everyone stepped up when they needed to. Some days when your offense isn't scoring a ton of runs, it's a huge weight when your pitching keep getting you back in there."

In the top of the 10th, Placido Polanco and pinch-hitter Greg Dobbs each singled. However, with one out, Justin Ruggiano and Ed Lucas struck out.

Joaquin Arias smacked a two-out single in the Giants 10th, but Tony Abreu lined out to right.

The Marlins had another opportunity to score in the 11th. Marcell Ozuna smacked a one-out double and Logan Morrison was intentionally walked, but Adeiny Hechavarria struck out and Polanco lined out to right.

Lucas hit his first career home run in the first inning, but the Marlins got just one runner in scoring position for the remainder of regulation.

"Every time you square up a ball, it feels good ... but I'd trade that one for my last at-bat with some runners on base in extra innings," said Lucas.

The Giants got on the board in the fifth. Juan Perez doubled to lead off and advanced to third on a ground out by Nick Noonan. However, when Zito delivered a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher, Perez was thrown out at the plate.

Next up was Blanco, whose ground rule double to right center plated Zito.

Both teams combined for three hits over the next three innings and went 1-2-3 in the ninth to send the game into extra innings.

Game Notes

The Giants were 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position while the Marlins were 0-for-5 with RISP ... Miami reliever Dan Jennings got the final out of the ninth. Since making his major league debut on May 4, 2012, he owns a 0.56 ERA in 17 road appearances.
