Insight: Singleton has been working on shortening his swing with hitting coach John Mallee, and Mallee said the results so far have been "absolutely amazing," according to mlb.com. The first baseman has hit .174 with eight homers, 26 RBI, 23 runs and a Chris Carter-esque 35.7 percent K rate in 196 plate appearances.

Insight: Singleton struck out in his other two at bats but it's nice to see his power translate to the majors. For those interested, he's still available in 47 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues.

Insight: Singleton, who signed a five-year extension today, will start off batting out of the No. 6 spot in the lineup. The impressive power he displayed in Triple-A (14 HR in 195 at bats) suggests he could be a factor right away.

Description: The Astros have signed first baseman Jon Singleton to a five-year, $10 million contract extension.
Insight: He's slated to make his big league debut on Tuesday. Singleton's career was briefly derailed by substance abuse but he's put that behind him and has had a very good season for Triple-A Oklahoma City (.267, 14 HR, 43 RBI).

Insight: MLB.com ranks Singleton as the top first-base prospect in baseball. He may already be in the majors if he wasn't suspended 50 games in 2013 for failing two drug tests for marijuana. Astros first basemen have a .533 OPS this season, third-worst in the majors.

Insight: After serving a 50-game suspension for failing a second drug test for marijuana, Singleton has hit .271 with five homers and a 1.024 OPS in 17 games with Class-A Quad Cities and Double-A Corpus Christi. Singleton, 21, could be in the majors later this season if he succeeds at Triple-A. We'll track his progress periodically.

Description: Astros first base prospect Jonathan Singleton went 2-for-4 with two homers and five RBIs on Friday to follow up his 4-for-5 performance on Thursday.
Insight: Singleton, the No. 1 prospect in the Astros' organization and the No. 38 prospect on MLB.com's top 100 list, went 8-for-13 with three homers, 10 RBIs and seven runs scored in his last three games. On the season, he's batting .321 with eight big flies, 33 RBIs and a .988 OPS in 44 games for Double-A Corpus Christi.
