Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander (triceps) will begin a rehab assisgnment with Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.
Insight: This puts Verlander on track to be activated around June 5. Stay tuned.

5/21/2015 10:18:00 AM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander threw 45-pitch bullpen session on Monday without incident.
Insight: Verlander is likely to throw another session before the team sends him out on a rehab assignment. That means he's still a couple of weeks away ... at best.

5/7/2015 12:55:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander threw 50 pitches on Thursday.
Insight: Verlander underwent his third MRI on Tuesday and the results were positive, but he's still not due back until June at the earliest.

5/6/2015 3:46:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander has been cleared to resume his throwing program according to The Detroit News.
Insight: Verlander underwent his third MRI on Tuesday and the results were positive. The MRI showed enough healing for the club to give Verlander the go-ahead to begin throwing. The right-hander is still trying to overcome a spring training triceps strain and despite the good news, isn't expected to return until June.

5/4/2015 6:04:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander will have another MRI on Tuesday according to FOX Sports.
Insight: Verlander has already had two MRIs, but apparently the Tigers want an update. If there is improvement, Verlander could begin throwing, but owners should not expect Verlander to return in May.

4/20/2015 4:55:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander had an MRI last Thursday, which confirmed he is dealing with a right triceps strain according to MLB.com.
Insight: Verlander pitched a simulated game last Wednesday and had to cut it short due to fatigue. Verlander is not expected to begin throwing again until his pain subsides, so there is no timetable for his return. Kyle Lobstein will be in the Tigers rotation until Verlander returns.

4/15/2015 4:50:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander said he cut his simulated game on Wednesday short because he felt tired according to MLive.com.
Insight: Verlander threw all his pitches during a 45-pitch simulated game, but he described his triceps as feeling "achy". This probably really frustrates Tigers fans and fantasy owners because Verlander's recovery seems to be moving at snails pace. There is no timetable for his return.

4/7/2015 7:03:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander is no longer expected to pitcher on Sunday versus the Indians according to MLBlogs.com.
Insight: Verlander threw a 40-pitch bullpen session on Sunday, and manager Brad Ausmus said the right-hander didn't feel great towards the end. Although Verlander hasn't been ruled out for Sunday, it appears he could spend more time on the DL.

4/3/2015 6:00:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander will throw a bullpen session on Sunday according to MLive.com.
Insight: Verlander is projected to tentatively make his 2015 regular season debut on April 12 in Cleveland, so even though he will go on the disabled list, the right-hander is not going to miss a start. Detroit is expected to go with a four-man rotation for the first week. This is the first time in his career that Verlander is on the DL.

4/2/2015 2:41:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander (right triceps) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 28.
Insight: Verlander should only miss one start if all goes well. We still don't like our chances of seeing the "old" Verlander ever again. Last season he was 15-12 with a 4.54 ERA and 1.398 WHIP.

3/27/2015 3:56:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander left Friday's start due to a due to cramp in his right triceps muscle, according to beat writer Chris Iott.
Insight: Verlander always seems to have aches and pains these days. This one doesn't appear to be serious. We still don't like our chances of seeing the "old" Verlander ever again. Last season he was 15-12 with a 4.54 ERA and 1.398 WHIP.

2/17/2015 3:02:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander threw 60 pitches in a bullpen session, according to beat writer Anthony Fenech.
Insight: Verlander appears to be ahead of schedule after offseason core muscle repair surgery. it's good news, but we still don't like our chances of seeing the "old" Verlander ever again. Last season he was 15-12 with a 4.54 ERA and 1.398 WHIP.

10/3/2014 4:40:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander recieves no-decision Friday against the Orioles.
Insight: He pitched well enough to earn the win, going five innings, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out four. Verlander left with a 5-3 lead, but Joba Chamberlain and Joakim Soria imploded in the eighth inning, resulting in a Baltimore comeback victory. Soria takes the loss for Detroit, putting the Tigers on the brink of elimination.

9/24/2014 6:06:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander has returned to form.
Insight: He still has a 4.54 ERA on the year, but went eight innings on Wednesday against the White Sox, allowing only one run on seven hits, while striking out six. Verlander is now 15-12, and will be heading into postseason play on a high note.

8/30/2014 9:16:00 AM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander allowed one run on nine hits over seven innings in a victory on Friday over the White Sox.
Insight: This is quite promising as Verlander looked like his old self on Friday. The only run he yielded was on an Adam Dunn sacrifice fly in the first inning. Overall, Verlander has still been very disappointing this year (12-11, 4.68 ERA, 1.45 WHIP), but he proved Friday he still has the potential to be dominant in any start.

8/23/2014 10:54:00 PM
Description: Tigers starter Justin Verlander made his return to the hill on Saturday. He pitched five and 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, struck out six and walked three.
Insight: It's another very average start in a very average season for Justin Verlander. He is obviously a shell of his old self as his ERA this year (4.76) is over a run higher than his career ERA (3.52).

8/20/2014 4:48:00 PM
Description: Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander (shoulder) is expected to start Saturday against the Twins.
Insight: Verlander (10-11, 4.76 ERA, 1.42 WHIP) hasn't pitched since he left his start on Aug. 11 with shoulder inflammation. Fantasy owners can't rely on him at this point.

8/12/2014 4:48:00 PM
Description: Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander's MRI showed no structural damage, according to beat writer Chris Iott.
Insight: Verlander gave up five runs (four earned) on four hits and walked two in his one inning of work Monday night, before leaving with right shoulder soreness.

8/11/2014 8:33:00 PM
Description: Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander left Monday's game after one inning due to right shoulder soreness, according to Jason Beck of mlb.com.
Insight: Verlander gave up five runs (four earned) on four hits and walked two in his inning of work. He had been pitching better as of late, recording a 3.14 ERA in his last 28 2/3 innings, but still not striking out a lot of batters in that span (5.96 K/9). Ironically, he struck out the side Monday.

8/1/2014 10:06:00 PM
Description: Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander allowed two runs on eight hits, struck out five and walked none in eight innings Friday night against the Rockies.
Insight: It was Verlander's best start since April and just the second time all season he didn't walk anyone. The right-hander has thrown a quality start in six of his last eight turns and is 10-9 with a 4.66 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. He's still not striking many batters out, however.
