Description: Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Alex Rodriguez can be the team's regular designated hitter this season according to the Wall Street Journal.
Insight: Rodriguez is hitting .286 with two home runs and a double in 33 plate appearances this spring. Rodriguez is going to turn 40 and both his hips have already been surgically repaired, so he could benefit from a full season just hitting.

3/11/2015 5:27:00 PM
Description: Yankees 3B/DH Alex Rodriguez hit his first homer of the spring.
Insight: He did so off Brandon Workman in the fourth inning. Rodriguez has hit well this spring (.455 BA), and will likely open up the season as New York's designated hitter.

3/4/2015 2:54:00 PM
Description: Yankees 3B/DH Alex Rodriguez went 1-for-2 with a walk in his return to action on Wednesday.
Insight: The hit was a single, and Rodriguez batted second in the lineup Wednesday against Philadelphia. Look for the Yankees to get him plenty of at-bats throughout spring training, as they try and figure out what to do with him this season.

3/2/2015 5:50:00 PM
Description: Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez will play Wednesday versus Philadelphia.
Insight: This will be his Grapefruit League debut. Look for Rodriguez to start at DH and see two-to-three at-bats.

2/28/2015 12:35:00 PM
Description: Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez took some reps at first base.
Insight: A-Rod is expected to work mostly as a DH, but the ability to play both first and third could add playing time. Whether he can still be a valuable fantasy option is up in the air as he hasn't played since September 2013.

2/23/2015 1:59:00 PM
Description: Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez reported to training camp Monday.
Insight: The circus is officially in town. It remains to be seen what the slugger still has in the tank. His last official at-bat was Sept 25, 2013. Over his last three seasons, he hit .269 with a total of 41 homers and a .796 OPS. Fantasy owners should watch closely, but do not touch.

10/10/2014 5:17:00 PM
Description: Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Friday that he is "open to pursuing third base options" according to Newsday.
Insight: CBS' Jon Heyman reported this week that the Yankees were interested in bringing back Chase Headley to play third. There is a high possibility that A-Rod will be playing at the DH spot, if that counts as playing, or possibility even moving to first base. The Yankees cannot count on him staying healthy an entire season at third base.

9/29/2014 9:40:00 PM
Description: Yankees manager Joe Girardi told ESPN New York on Monday that he expects Alex Rodriguez to be the team's third baseman next season.
Insight: Girardi went on to say A-Rod doesn't automatically have the job, but he should be able to be the everyday third baseman if healthy. Even though this news likely makes Yankee fans want to puke, the team could really use a power right-handed bat. That's if Rodriguez can be somewhat of his old self. Reality seems to have set in for Rodriguez, who must have figured out he stood almost no chance of winning this case in federal court. A-Rod will sit out the entire 2014 season as he serves a 162-game PED suspension. Rodriguez will not be reporting to spring training later this month.

1/21/2014 2:25:00 PM
Description: According to a Yahoo! report, MLB players reps wanted to kick New York third baseman Alex Rodriguez out of the union during a call last week.
Insight: Union leadership apparently told the players that approach wasn't legally possible, but it explains how many of the today's players are feeling. There doesn't appear to be much player support for A-Rod.

Description: New York third baseman Alex Rodriguez will officially file a suit against Major League Baseball in federal court on Monday. SOURCE: Mike DiGiovanna, Los Angeles Times
Insight: He's contesting arbitrator Fredric Horowitz's suspension ruling that reduced his ban from 211 games to 162. Our advice to fantasy owners would be to assume that Rodriguez will not be on the field in 2014. A-Rod's absence is significant because it saves the Yankees $25 million in salary that they can now give to free agent starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka.

1/11/2014 3:55:00 PM
Description: According to Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York, sources in Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez's camp are "100 percent certain" he'll report to spring training. The Yankees cannot stop him because his suspension does not begin until the regular season.
Insight: Arbitrator Fredric Horowitz reduced Rodriguez's suspension from 211 games to 162 games Saturday, but A-Rod will now take his case to federal court to try to get the suspension overturned.

1/11/2014 12:49:00 PM
Description: New York third baseman Alex Rodriguez suspension was reduced from 211 to 162 games, but that's still a full season.
Insight: Rodriguez is expected to file an injunction. Meanwhile, the Yankees are likely to move on and find a third baseman for the 2014 season. The options on the current roster are Kelly Johnson or Eduardo Nunez.

Insight: Rodriguez is expected to file an injunction if the suspension is greater than 100 games, though if it's less, it may not be worth the trouble. While it's doubtful that A-Rod's suspension will be overturned completely, that remains a possibility. Eduardo Nunez is next up on the team's depth chart at third base should A-Rod face a lengthy ban.

11/20/2013 4:46:00 PM
Description: A bizarre scene unfolded Wednesday when an outraged Alex Rodriguez stormed out of his arbitration hearing after learning commissioner Bud Selig would not be asked to testify. Rodriguez is appealing the 211-game suspension he was given last August. SOURCE: ESPN New York
Insight: Multiple sources suspect Rodrgiuez's tantrum, which included him pounding his fist on the table and cursing, may have been staged. The fact that Rodriguez's representatives released a statement almost immediately after he left the hearing would lend credence to that hypothesis. This case may have to be resolved in federal court.

9/26/2013 5:06:00 PM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will be in Houston for this weekend's series, his spokesman Ron Berkowitz confirmed.
Insight: The New York Daily News reported Thursday that the Yankees gave A-Rod permission to skip the three-game series to prepare for his arbitration hearing regarding his 211-game suspension, but Yankees GM Brian Cashman said the report was inaccurate.

Insight: The New York Daily News reported Thursday that the Yankees gave A-Rod permission to skip the three-game series to prepare for his arbitration hearing regarding his 211-game suspension, but it appears he'll play.

9/20/2013 10:10:00 PM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez hit his 24th career grand slam Friday against the Giants, breaking Lou Gehrig's all-time record.
Insight: Rodriguez entered Friday's game in a 1-for-21 slump. He's batting .261 with seven home runs, 18 RBI and an .822 OPS this season and has proven he'll still be a fantasy factor in 2014 if he's not suspended.

9/18/2013 9:56:00 AM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will continue through Thursday to play in the DH role while dealing with his calf injury, according to Chris Toman of MLB.com.
Insight: Rodriguez, who has hit .275 with an .841 OPS, six homers and 14 RBI in 131 at-bats since returning from his injury, is struggling at the plate going just 1-for-14 over his last five games.

9/17/2013 5:14:00 PM
Description: Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez (calf) is in the lineup Tuesday against the Blue Jays.
Insight: Rodriguez, who has hit .283 with an .865 OPS, six homers and 14 RBI in 127 at-bats since returning from his injury, left Sunday's game with tightness in his calf.
