National League Game Summary - Arizona at Cincinnati

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Paul Goldschmidt hit a grand slam and Patrick Corbin pitched scoreless ball into the eighth, as Arizona took down Cincinnati, 5-2, in the second edition of a four-game set.

"I hope they both have big runs left in them. The team feeds off Patrick and Goldy. They've been our most consistent players all year," said D-Backs' manager Kirk Gibson.

Martin Prado contributed two hits, including a solo homer, for the Diamondbacks, who have won six of their last eight.

Corbin (13-3) eventually went the distance for the second time this season, giving up six hits and two runs with 10 strikeouts. The lanky left-hander picked up his first win in five starts since July 23.

Chris Heisey's two-run shot was the lone offense for the Reds, who have dropped three of five.

Tony Cingrani (6-3) departed due to a lower back strain after just 3 2/3 innings, having allowed two hits and one run.

"He didn't tell me what was up," said Reds manager Dusty Baker. "These young guys want to stay in the rotation and stay in the big leagues.

The visitors provided themselves some breathing room in their second-to-last turn at the plate.

Corbin, A.J. Pollock and Prado all singled with one out in the eighth, then Goldschmidt cleared the bases with his 31st homer of the season to make it 5-0 for the Diamondbacks.

The blast, off J.J. Hoover, gave Goldschmidt a club record with his third grand slam of the season, and also made him the first player in the National League to eclipse the 100-RBI mark.

Zack Cozart began the home half with a base hit and scored when Heisey followed with a long shot to left which broke up Corbin's shutout bid.

That was the lone blemish on Corbin's ledger, as he retired the final six batters in order to close out the contest.

"I had my best slider going. I felt good in the warm-up, so I thought it was going to be a good game. I knew I could rely on my slider any time," Corbin admitted.

Prado's fourth-inning solo shot snapped a scoreless tie and gave Arizona the lead. Cingrani had set down the first 10 Arizona batters before the blast.

The Cincinnati starter exited in the fourth, immediately following an Aaron Hill double. Alfredo Simon came on and induced an inning-ending pop put from Matt Davidson.

"It finally bothered me enough. I felt it coming on before, it's been gradual. But it hasn't been as bad as it was tonight," Cingrani said of his ailment.

Corbin worked a leadoff walk in the sixth, but was stranded at third to end the frame. The Reds then stranded runners on the corners in the seventh.

Game Notes

Corbin also finished off a start on May 20 at Colorado, taking a 5-1 decision by allowing three hits and one run while fanning 10 ... Arizona improved to 21-4 in games started by Corbin ... Since fans were encouraged to bring their dogs to Great American Ball Park, no fireworks were set off following Heisey's homer ... The loss meant the Reds failed to set a season-high for number of games over the .500 mark. Cincinnati entered play a season-high 17 games above even ... Goldschmidt's 100 RBI tied Adam LaRoche's franchise record for first basemen, set in 2010.
