Moving vans on speed dial and the source of football knowledge

Posted December 10, 2012

Steve Logan explained a little bit of his one-of-a-kind personality Monday when joining Mark and Mike on 620 The Buzz, as he does every Monday from 7-8 a.m.

“The accumulation of leisure time was always my No. 1 goal. Even when I was working,” Logan said. “I hate work. I hated work; I hated school. The only thing I wanted from school was out. I’d go in, take care of what was necessary, and then I’d want to play.”

It's listening to music, playing guitars and hitting the tennis courts for Logan now - not a bad daily routine. Fortunately, Logan also still enjoys football and doesn’t mind expressing his opinion on it.

Logan said Monday that the Heisman still has a purpose, but really it is just the best offensive player and that the honor is diluted because of the copious amount of other individual trophies. Also, smaller schools will never have award winners because “to the media, it’s not sexy enough.”

Also discussed, turnovers. The Arizona Cardinals turned it over eight times in an NFL game. Logan points out that when that happens, people lose jobs. “Atlas Van Lines … coaches have that number on speed dial this time of year.”

And where does football knowledge come from? It doesn’t trickle down from the NFL, rather it trickles up from the collegiate ranks. What does trickle down from the NFL is the protections and how to set them to protect the quarterbacks.

I always enjoy listening to Logan. He's got great insight of the game, and that combined with his personality makes for a very entertaining show. There's never a dull moment when Coach comes up with classic "Logan-isms" like "I'll kiss his reary on 5th and Main". Football, red wine, blues - always a good time listening to Coach.

^^^^^should say "rear". Wouldn't let me say the word Logan uses anyway.
