MTEN: ECU shuts-out JMU, 6-0

Greenville, N.C. — The East Carolina men's tennis team posted a 6-0 shutout of James Madison to win its eighth straight match Sunday afternoon at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center. The shutout was it's third consecutive of the season.
The Pirates matched last season's longest winning streak of eight matches in improving to 8-1 overall and dropping JMU to 2-2. They have not lost since dropping their season opener to No. 43 North Carolina.
ECU claimed the doubles point for the sixth time this season to take a 1-0 lead. The 53rd-ranked tandem of Joran Vliegen and Colin Roller were first off with a 6-1 win over Miljan Ruzic and Robert Stirling. The clinching win came at No. 2 as Damien Brenard and Fredric Lehfeldt improved to 6-3 as a duo by defeating Brett Moorhead and Niels Kathol, 6-2. The third doubles match went unfinished.
East Carolina kept things rolling in singles, courtesy of a 6-1, 6-5 (7-1) win from 23rd-ranked Vliegen on court one over Stirling for his 20th singles win of the 2013-14 season to give ECU a 2-0 lead.
The Pirates went up 3-0 as Nicolas Soriano won 6-4, 6-2 over Sebastian Salinas at the two spot. ECU clinched at No. 3 as Mario Martinez rallied from a set down to defeat Ruzic 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 The Pirates led 5-0 when Brenard defeated Moorhead 6-5 (7-5), 6-2. Lehfeldt picked up the final point with win over Maxi Branth on court five 6-3, 6-2.
ECU is next in action Thursday, Feb. 13 against The Citadel in Charleston, S.C.
