The Carolina Mudcats cracked a pair of firsts in a big 10-6 win over the Frederick Keys on Sunday night at Harry Grove Stadium. The victory means a split of the four-game series at Frederick.

Carlos Moncrief powered the Mudcats’ first grand slam of 2012 out to left for a 5-0 lead in the first inning. More Info     Carolina Mudcats Logo More Mudcats Stories

After a Frederick rally tied the score, Tony Wolters launched a fly ball that hit off the center field fence with two on, two out in the sixth. The shot caromed by Trent Mummey and Wolters raced around the bases for an inside-the-park home run. His third round-tripper drove in three, and put the Mudcats ahead to stay, 8-5.

Jordan Cooper (5-3) tossed five innings in relief, allowing a pair of runs on six hits. It was his fourth straight winning decision for the Mudcats (13-10, 45-48).

Eric Beaulac (1-1) takes the loss for the Keys (11-12, 38-55), allowing three runs on four hits over two innings.

Ronny Rodriguez sailed his 12th homer of the year out of the park to left for a 10-5 lead in the seventh.

Bo Greenwell and Moncrief finished with three hits apiece. Jesus Aguilar had a bases-loaded single in the first inning to give the Mudcats a 1-0 edge.

Carolina returns to Five County Stadium to host the Winston-Salem Dash for the first of four on Monday night at 7:15. Tickets are available through the box office by calling (919) 269-2287 or visiting carolinamudcats.com.
