Lynchburg, Va. — The Lynchburg Hillcats scored five straight over the second half of Saturday night’s game at Calvin Falwell Field to win 7-3 over the Carolina Mudcats. Lynchburg (23-25, 62-56) wins the weekend series over Carolina (24-24, 56-62) with the triumph.
Michael Lee (2-2) earned the win in his fifth start for Lynchburg. The right-hander tossed seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Lee struck out five without allowing a walk. Juan Jaime pitched the final two frames for his 18th save, and struck out four.
Francisco Jimenez (8-8) struggled with his command in the start for the Mudcats. The southpaw issued a season-high four walks over four innings, and allowed two runs on six hits.
Trailing 2-2 going to the fifth, the Mudcats managed a rally against Lee. Anthony Gallas doubled off the center field wall, and scored on a single to right by Tyler Cannon. Alex Monsalve tied the score by cracking a double off the left field wall.
The tie was short-lived, however, as Adam Milligan homered to left, putting the Hillcats ahead to stay. Lynchburg scored two in the sixth and two in the eighth to pull away.
Giovanny Urshela extended his hitting streak to seven games with a ninth-inning double, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jesus Aguilar. Tony Wolters extended his hit streak to eight games by lining the first pitch of the night into right field for a single.
The Carolina Mudcats will try to salvage a win in the series against Lynchburg on Sunday at 6:05 p.m. The Mudcats return home to host the Frederick Keys for three games beginning August 13.
