NOTES:
The Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500 at Martinsville Speedway is the 33rd race on the 2013 Sprint Cup Series schedule. It's also the seventh in the 10- race Chase.

Martinsville Speedway opened in September 1947 and was originally a dirt track. The first NASCAR-sanctioned race at this track occurred on July 4, 1948. The track was paved in 1955, and concrete corners were added atop asphalt in 1976. There are 12 degrees of banking in all four turns.

There have been 129 Sprint Cup races held at Martinsville. Red Byron won the inaugural event there on Sept. 25, 1949. The series has competed at this track twice each year since 1950.

Richard Petty holds the record for most wins at Martinsville with 15. Jimmie Johnson leads all active drivers with eight victories there.

Petty has more starts at Martinsville than any other driver with 67. Ken Schrader's 53 starts there is tops among those drivers on the entry list for this weekend's race. Schrader is scheduled to drive the No. 32 Ford for FAS Lane Racing.

Hendrick Motorsports has the most car owner wins at Martinsville with 20, followed by Petty Enterprises with 19.

Darrell Waltrip holds the record for most pole wins at Martinsville with eight. Gordon leads all active drivers with seven poles there.

The race winner at Martinsville has started from the pole 21 times, which is more than any other starting position there. Johnson has started on the pole and won the last two races at this track.

Johnson is attempting to win his third straight race at Martinsville. It would be the second time he accomplishes that feat. Johnson won three in a row there in the fall of 2006 and scored a season-sweep in 2007. Denny Hamlin most recently scored three consecutive victories at this track, doing so from October 2009 through October 2010.

Since NASCAR began using electronic timing and scoring in 1993, the closest margin of victory in a Cup race at Martinsville occurred on April 1, 2007 when Johnson beat Gordon to the finish line by just 0.065 seconds.

The furthest back a driver has started and won a Cup race at Martinsville is 36th. Kurt Busch did it in the fall of 2002.

Two drivers entered in this race made their Cup debuts at Martinsville: Travis Kvapil (fall of 2004) and Michael McDowell (spring of 2008).

No driver on the entry list has scored his or her first Cup win or pole at Martinsville.

Richard Petty holds the record as the youngest driver to win a race at Martinsville. Petty took the checkered flag there on April 10, 1960 when he was 22 years, 9 months and 8 days old. When Harry Gant was 51 years, 8 months and 12 days old, he became the oldest driver to win there on September 22, 1991.

Round 8 in the championship Chase is the Nov. 3 AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Johnson won last year's race there.
