NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Saturday, November 16th (All times Eastern)

Philadelphia 76ers (5-5) at New Orleans Pelicans (3-6), 8 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The New Orleans Pelicans went 0-3 on a recent road trip, but return to the Big Easy Saturday night to welcome the Philadelphia 76ers to New Orleans Arena.

The Pelicans fell to the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz on a jaunt west.

The most recent setback came Wednesday night in Salt Lake City to the Jazz, 111-105. The Pelicans had a double-digit lead, but squandered it, thanks to a 38-28 drubbing in the fourth quarter. It was Utah's first win of the season.

"For us, we've got to learn how to win these games on the road or anywhere," said head coach Monty Williams. "When you have a team down by 14, possessions are so important. We just gave up 38 points (in the fourth quarter). That's on me. The bottom line is we have to play defense a lot better than we've played."

Contrary to the performance against the Jazz, New Orleans ranks in the top half of the NBA in opponents' scoring.

Anthony Davis continued his tear this season. He scored 29 points and grabbed 15 rebounds against the Jazz. Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans both had 19, followed by 16 from Eric Gordon and 10 from Jason Smith.

For Holiday, this is a big night. He will play his former team, the Sixers, for the first time since they traded him to New Orleans for Nerlens Noel and a first-round pick in the offseason. Holiday's heart may still be in Philadelphia since he said "Sixers" instead of "Pelicans" in a pregame speech before the home opener this season.

Philly fell to .500 with a 113-103 road loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night.

The Sixers fell eight behind after the first quarter, but thumped the Hawks, 39-29 in the second quarter. The Hawks won the final two quarters by 12 points and cruised.

"We moved the ball well in that first half, we found backdoors, we found different people," said Philadelphia head coach Brett Brown. "I don't think we moved the ball as well in the second half, I thought the ball stuck a lot in the second half."

Rookie Michael Carter-Williams missed his second straight game with a sore foot.

Evan Turner led the Sixers with 27 points on 10-for-19 shooting. Tony Wroten, who started in place of Carter-Williams, netted 22, followed by 17 from Thaddeus Young and 14 points and 12 boards for Spencer Hawes.

The teams split last season's two matchups with each team winning on the other's court. The Sixers have taken three of their last four meetings in New Orleans.
