NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Wednesday, January 15th (All times Eastern)

Miami Heat (27-10) at Washington Wizards (17-19), 7 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Heat will try to snap a two-game losing streak Wednesday night when their long road trip takes them to the Verizon Center to meet the Washington Wizards.

The Heat haven't lost three consecutive games all season, but that's the fate that waits for them with a setback on Wednesday. Miami is on game three of a six-game odyssey, but with five days since their last game, the Heat have had time to regroup.

They've also had time to pay a special visit. The Heat made the customary trip as league champions to the White House to meet President Barack Obama on Tuesday.

"Bottom line is: outstanding athletes, outstanding organization, outstanding team but also outstanding members of their community," Obama said.

The Heat lost at Madison Square Garden to the New York Knicks on Thursday, then fell in double-overtime to the Brooklyn Nets one night later.

With nicknames on their jerseys, the Nets outlasted the Heat, thanks in large part to the fact that LeBron James fouled out of just his fourth regular- season game with 36 seconds left in the first overtime.

The Nets dominated in his absence, won the second extra session, 11-2, and walked off with a 104-95 victory.

Dwyane Wade sat out for rest, while Mario Chalmers and Shane Battier missed the game with lingering issues.

"We're a no-excuse team, but right now we have three starters that didn't play," James said. "Even though we've got a lot of depth, it is hard to make up for three starters being out."

James had 36 points on 12-of-21 shooting to go with seven rebounds and five assists for Miami. Norris Cole, who tied it in regulation with under four seconds left, had 18 points and seven assists in defeat. He also played over 52 minutes.

Chris Bosh had 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Rashard Lewis added 12.

The Wizards ended a two-game losing streak with a decisive, 102-88 win on Monday over the Bulls in Chicago. Washington never trailed once during the game.

"Win, lose, draw, you have to play all-out with that intensity each game. You can't have segments of it," Wizards head coach Randy Wittman said. "Tonight, we didn't let up."

John Wall filled the stat sheet with 19 points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals for Washington. Nene also finished with 19 points, five assists and five boards for the Wizards

Trevor Ariza, Bradley Beal, Martell Webster and Garrett Temple also scored in double figures for the Wiz. Marcin Gortat pulled down 11 rebounds for Washington.

The Heat, who will still visit Philadelphia, Charlotte and Atlanta on this trip, beat the Wizards by 10 in South Beach on Nov. 3. The Heat have won four straight and 16 of the last 20 meetings, including a 9-4 mark in D.C.
