NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at Detroit

(Friday, November 22nd)

Final Score: Atlanta 96, Detroit 89

Auburn Hills, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Jeff Teague led all five Atlanta starters in double figures with 18 points, while Al Horford netted 17 with 11 rebounds, and the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Detroit Pistons, 96-89, on Friday night.

Kyle Korver and Paul Millsap each chipped in 14 points and DeMarre Carroll tallied 12 points in the win.

Teague scored 14 points in the third quarter and made a clutch block on Detroit's Brandon Jennings with the Hawks holding a 92-89 lead with 1:41 left in the fourth quarter, as Atlanta swept its home-and-home with Detroit.

"They (Detroit) play well at home," said Horford. "This was a big win for us to be able to come in here on the road (after) disappointing them on Wednesday and being able to win again tonight."

Kyle Singler scored 22 points starting in place of Josh Smith, Andre Drummond recorded his seventh straight double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds, and Greg Monroe added 11 points and 11 boards in the setback.

The Hawks led 86-81 when Carroll hit two free throws after Singler was called for a clear path foul. Detroit answered with a 6-0 run to take the lead late in the fourth.

Carroll then hit a layup and a three-pointer around a Horford free throw to put Atlanta back up, 92-87, with 2:20 left.

Singler responded with a layup 20 seconds later to make it a one possession game.

After Jennings plucked Teague, Atlanta's point guard trailed the play and blocked the layup from behind. Teague threw an alley-oop to Horford at the other end and Carroll added a layup with 54.4 seconds left for the final margin.

"We had some turnovers late in the game that made a difference, but I liked our energy, I liked our effort," said Detroit head coach Maurice Cheeks.

Korver made his first three point attempt of the game with 5:04 left in the first quarter to extend his streak with at least one triple to 86 straight games, putting the sharp-shooter only three games shy of the record set by Dana Barros.

His three was a part of a 15-4 run that gave the Hawks a 27-18 advantage after a Mike Scott trey with 1:59 left in the first to give Atlanta a 27-18 lead.

Detroit closed to within five after the opening quarter, 27-22, and Atlanta maintained the margin through three quarters with each team scoring 22 points in the second and 24 points in the third.

Pistons' forward Josh Smith was held scoreless against his former team, missing all seven of his shot attempts. Smith came off the bench for the first time since 2005.
