NBA Game Summary - Philadelphia at Portland

(Saturday, January 4th)

Final Score: Philadelphia 101, Portland 99

Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Thaddeus Young poured in a game-high 30 points as the Philadelphia 76ers held on for a 101-99 win over the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center.

After Blazers guard Damian Lillard cut the deficit to two points, Sixers forward Lavoy Allen threw the inbounds pass right to Portland center Robin Lopez.

The Blazers called a timeout and threw it into Lillard, who couldn't get his layup to go. Evan Turner recovered the rebound and threw the ball straight in the air as time expired to seal the win.

"I had a good look," Lillard said. "Off-balance or not, I've got to make that."

Turner finished with 23 points and Michael Carter-Williams scored 16 to go with nine rebounds.

Carter-Williams appeared to take an elbow from Young to the head on the final play of the game and remained on the court for several moments after the final horn, but walked off under his own power.

"He got hit on the head by Thaddeus. He's going through preliminary concussion tests now. We will know more about it later," Sixers coach Brett Brown said.

Philadelphia has won a season-high four straight.

LaMarcus Aldridge had 29 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks and Lillard poured in 17 for the Blazers, who have dropped three of their last five games.

The Sixers trailed 84-77 after Wesley Matthew knocked down a pair of free throws with just under 8 1/2 minutes left. Philadelphia then opened up a 13-0 run to go up 90-84 at the 4:29 mark.

Portland rallied for six straight points to knot things up. The teams traded buckets from there until Young put the Sixers up 94-92 with his running hook shot with 1:10 left. Lopez, though, knocked down a pair of free throws 16 seconds later to tie the game.

Carter-Williams missed a shot on the ensuing trip down court, but Young was there to tip in the miss.

Carter-Williams blocked a Lillard layup six seconds later, but Matthews was there for the offensive board and was fouled on the putback. Matthews made the first free throw, but missed the potential game-tying shot from the charity stripe.

The Blazers fouled Carter-Williams with 21.5 ticks left and the rookie missed his second free throw, but the ball bounced off a Blazers player and out of bounds.

The Sixers threw the ball in from under their own basket to Spencer Hawes near midcourt. The big man did not handle the pass cleanly, but was fouled by Lillard and knocked down both free throws for a four-point spread.

Nicolas Batum threw an alley-oop to Aldridge off the inbounds pass to make it 99-97, but a pair of Turner free throws stretched the visitors' lead back to four points.

The Sixers led 32-19 after the first quarter and held just a 52-50 lead at the break. Portland led by as many as nine in the third before taking a 76-69 edge into the fourth.

"We started the game with a little bit of swagger. We were sharing the ball," said Brown.

According to the Blazers' website, Batum broke the middle finger on his left finger. Batum had his hand tangled in a jersey in the closing seconds and underwent an X-Ray after the game that revealed the fracture.

Game Notes

The Sixers were outrebounded 59-43, but outscored Portland 64-40 in the paint ... Philadelphia scored 21 points off 18 Trail Blazers turnovers ... Mo Williams scored 16 points off the bench and Lopez had 14 points and 15 boards in the setback ... Batum had 10 boards and 10 assists before fouling out for the Blazers, who were 3-of-22 from 3-point range.
