NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Wednesday, November 13th (All times Eastern)

Washington Wizards (2-5) at San Antonio Spurs (7-1), 8:30 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs return home Wednesday night after a brief, but dominating, trip east to welcome the Washington Wizards to the AT&T Center.

The Spurs throttled the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden on Sunday afternoon, then headed south to crush the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night at Wells Fargo Center.

San Antonio won the two games by an average of 27.5 points.

"I was really pleased with the effort," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said after the 109-85 drubbing of Philadelphia. "It was our fifth game in seven nights. I was really impressed with their focus."

Tim Duncan sat against the Sixers, but it hardly mattered. Danny Green shot 5- for-7 from long range and led the Spurs with 18 points. Tony Parker had 14 points and nine assists.

Kawhi Leonard, Tiago Splitter, Patty Mills and Marco Belinelli also cracked the 10-point plateau for the Spurs, who own the second-best record in the league behind the undefeated Indiana Pacers.

The Wizards have dropped two in a row since back-to-back victories, but at least both setbacks came on the road. Their stop in San Antonio completes the three-game swing.

On Tuesday, the Dallas Mavericks bested the Wiz, 105-95, despite 27 points from Trevor Ariza, who went 5-for-11 from the 3-point line.

The Mavs shot 48.8 percent from the field and Washington has allowed all seven opponents this season to go over the 100-point mark.

"We're not playing any defense," admitted head coach Randy Wittman. "What are we, last in the league in points, last in the league in field-goal percentage?"

Actually, coach Wittman, the Wizards are 29th in both categories.

Scoring isn't a problem as Washington has gone over 100 points five out of seven games. They are ninth in the NBA in scoring at 103.6 ppg.

John Wall scored 14 points and handed out 10 assists against Dallas. Nene also managed 14 points and Marcin Gortat had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Bradley Beal struggled to nine points on 2-for-10 shooting.

The Wizards have dropped 14 straight to the Spurs, dating back to the 2005-2006 season. Washington has lost 13 in a row as the visitor in this series.
