Spurs head to Atlanta to face the Hawks

(SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs are preparing for their upcoming Rodeo Road Trip with Friday's away contest against the Atlanta Hawks, the first of three in a row outside the Alamo City.

The Spurs will also visit Miami and Houston before returning home for two games, then will depart the state of Texas for nine games from Feb. 3-21.

San Antonio has lost two of three games since winning six straight and suffered a 111-105 setback to Oklahoma City Wednesday in the finale of a four- game homestand (2-2). Tony Parker posted a season-high 37 points on 14-of-22 shooting, but it wasn't enough to keep the Spurs in the win column. Tim Duncan ended with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Boris Diaw and Marco Belinelli ended with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

"I thought they stayed in the game all night long. I thought we started out poorly. We didn't start out very physical or much tenacity and not much edge," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said.

Kevin Durant continued to shine with 36 points and Reggie Jackson added 27 for an Oklahoma City squad that shot 54.2 percent and made 10-of-18 3-pointers. The Spurs trailed by four points with two minutes to go when Durant hit a 3- pointer and hit 53.3 percent for the game. They posted 25 points off 15 Thunder turnovers.

In injury news for San Antonio, forward Kawhi Leonard suffered a non-displaced fracture of his right fourth metacarpal and could miss up to a month. He sustained the injury against Oklahoma City and is averaging 11.6 points and 6.1 rebounds this season.

San Antonio owns the best road record in the NBA at 15-3 and is unbeaten in the last five contests as the visitor.

Meanwhile, the Hawks have won two straight and four of six games, and recorded a 112-109 victory at Orlando the last time out on Wednesday.

Paul Millsap led seven players in double figures with 24 points, Jeff Teague added 23 points one night after posting two in a win over Miami and DeMarre Carroll ended with 17 and eight rebounds. Kyle Korver (12), Shelvin Mack (10), Mike Scott (10) and Pero Antic (10) rounded out the double-digit scorers.

Atlanta fought back from deficits of 98-92 and 109-106.

"Guys pulled together and said we're going to win this game," Teague said. "We stuck together and got a big win."

Antic also had a career-best 12 rebounds for the first double-double of his career, but is expected to miss two to four weeks with a stress fracture to his right ankle. He apparently suffered the injury in a loss to Brooklyn in London, England on Jan. 16.

Carroll left the Orlando win with a mild strain to his left hamstring and is questionable Friday.

The Hawks are 15-6 at Philips Arena this season and sustained a 102-100 loss at San Antonio back on Dec. 2. Duncan buried the go-ahead jumper with four- tenths of a second remaining after Teague tied the game with a tough step-back 3-pointer. Duncan dominated with 23 points and 21 rebounds for the Spurs, who have won six straight, 13 of 14 and 25 of the last 29 meetings in this series.

San Antonio is 5-1 in its last six games at Philips Arena.
