NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at Cleveland

(Thursday, December 26th)

Final Score: Atlanta 127, Cleveland 125 (2-OT)

Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Jeff Teague scored 34 points, including the game-winner as time expired to give the Atlanta Hawks a 127-125 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in double overtime from Quicken Loans Arena.

Atlanta had the ball with 21.7 seconds left when Teague dribbled out the clock for the final shot. He gained separation from Kyrie Irving on the drive, hoisted up a 20-foot jumper that hit the rim five times and rattled in for the victory.

"It was supposed to be a pick-and-roll at the end, but they switched on us, so I just went for it," said Teague, who also finished with 14 assists in the win, Atlanta's third straight over Cleveland.

Al Horford had 25 points, while Kyle Korver and Paul Millsap contributed 20 points apiece for the Hawks.

Irving, who was held scoreless in a 108-89 loss at Atlanta on Dec. 6, paced all scorers with 40 points, including 16 in the overtime sessions. Tristan Thompson added 22 points and Dion Waiters returned from a three-game hiatus due to right wrist tendonitis with 20 points off the bench.

Anderson Varejao had eight points and a season-high 17 rebounds for Cleveland, losers in three straight.

With the score 95-93 and just over a minute remaining in regulation, Teague drove the lane and dished to Horford, who tied the game with a layup. Teague had a chance to put the Hawks in front but his floater was off the mark with 0.9 seconds left.

Varejao's deep 3 as time expired was well off the mark and the game headed to OT.

Irving was fouled by Korver and made both free throws to put Cleveland up 103-99 with 1:24 to play in the first OT. Millsap then converted an alley oop layup from Shelvin Mack to make it a one-possession game.

Teague drove attempting to tie the game with 25.1 seconds left, but Thompson blocked his shot and Millsap lost control of the ball out of bounds after recovering the offensive rebound.

Jarrett Jack hit 1-of-2 from the line to make it 104-101 and Millsap made a layup to put pressure on Cleveland from the charity stripe. Unlike Jack, rookie Matthew Dellavedova hit both of his tries, but Teague raced down the floor for a layup with 7.2 seconds left.

Dellavedova had ice running through his veins as he hit another pair of free throws for a 108-105 advantage.

Teague had an answer and showed he had some ice running in his blood as he buried a deep 3 to tie the game. Irving lost the ball out of bounds with 2.4 seconds left and Teague missed a corner jumper as time expired.

Irving quickly made amends of the turnover by scoring the first five points of the second OT. He opened with a 3 and then picked Teague's pocket and drove in for a reverse layup for a 113-108 advantage.

Pero Antic hit a 3 to cut the deficit to two, 115-113, and Thompson countered with an old fashion three-point play.

Korver kept the Hawks alive after a four-point play with just under three minutes left and Irving answered with a 3 to push the lead back to four, 121-117. Korver, however, hit another 3, but Irving once again responded with a jumper from the wing.

Mack made a jumper and Teague followed with a three-point play to give Atlanta a 125-123 advantage with 1:06 to go.

Irving dribbled down and buried an elbow jumper to tie the game with 55.8 ticks remaining before Teague sent Cleveland fans home dissatisfied.

"We had some good moments over the course of the game, but it's disappointing because we had a chance to close out the game a couple of times in regulation and overtime," said Cavs head coach Mike Brown. "You have to give credit to Atlanta."

Atlanta led 50-48 at halftime and brought a 76-72 advantage into the fourth quarter.
