Durant pours in 33 to lead Thunder in rout of Heat

Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - After finishing second to LeBron James in NBA MVP voting three times, Kevin Durant currently has the leg up on that coveted honor this year.

His Oklahoma City Thunder may have a leg up on the two-time defending NBA champions as well.

Durant netted 33 points, extending his 30-or-more points streak to 12 games, and the Thunder routed the Miami Heat, 112-95, on Wednesday night.

Durant was 12-of-23 from the floor and added seven rebounds and five assists for Oklahoma City, which has won nine straight games. Durant's 12-game stretch of 30-or-more points is the longest since Tracy McGrady did it in 14 consecutive outings during the 2002-03 season.

The Heat raced out to an 18-2 start, but the Thunder outscored them 110-77 the rest of the way. OKC shot 59.3 percent (16-of-27) from beyond the arc and held a 20-8 margin in fast-break points.

"They were ready for us to come in and play," Durant said. "They hit some tough shots early on, a few 3s, and we didn't panic. We just tried to stay together and that's what we did."

Serge Ibaka tallied 22 points and eight rebounds, Jeremy Lamb scored 18 points and was 4-of-6 from deep and Derek Fisher knocked down all five of his 3-point attempts in the triumph.

LeBron James had 34 points on 12-of-20 shooting for the Heat, who fell to 19-4 at home this year and are 5-5 in their last 10 tilts.

"Other than the first eight minutes of the game they outclassed us tonight," Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra said.

Serge Ibaka hit a jumper for the game's first points, but Miami responded with 18 straight points. Shane Battier and Chris Bosh capped the surge with back- to-back 3-pointers for an 18-2 lead.

The Heat built a 22-4 advantage before OKC responded with 12 consecutive points. Durant had a three-point play and knocked down a pair of free throws to cap the swing and whittle the deficit to 22-16.

Miami led 30-21 after a quarter of play.

The Thunder came all the way back during the middle stages of the second. Durant finished off a 9-0 OKC push when he snatched Reggie Jackson's outlet pass with his left hand and completed a reverse layup on the other side of the basket for a 46-44 edge.

A few possessions later, Durant, who netted 16 points in the opening half on 6-of-12 shooting, nailed a high-arching 3-pointer over James with the shot clock running down to make it 49-46 in favor of OKC.

The Thunder headed into the break with a 55-50 cushion and extended the lead further in the third with a 9-0 push.

Jackson, Thabo Sefolosha and Perry Jones hit 3s during the swing as OKC took a 64-52 spread. Fisher banked in a left wing trey at the third-quarter buzzer to stake the Thunder to a 91-75 advantage.

OKC led by as many as 25 in the final frame before cruising to the easy win.

Game Notes

Durant was 4-of-9 from beyond the arc ... OKC recorded 25 points off 21 Miami turnovers ... The Heat held a 48-34 points in the paint advantage ... The Heat were 3-of-19 from downtown.
