NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Monday, December 23rd (All times Eastern)

Detroit Pistons (13-16) at Cleveland Cavaliers (10-16), 7 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Pistons will try to halt a losing streak Monday night when they visit the Q for a Central Division showdown with the Cleveland Cavaliers

Detroit fell at home to both the Charlotte Bobcats and Houston Rockets last week. The Pistons are only 6-10 inside The Palace of Auburn Hills, but they can take solace knowing, as they start a three-game road trip around the holidays, they are 7-6 as the visitor.

On Saturday, Detroit, despite having one of the biggest, strongest and most- talented frontlines, had no answer for Dwight Howard. The Houston big man went off for 35 points and 19 rebounds as the Rockets shot almost 56 percent from the field.

"We are still trying to get better, night in and night out. As I said to our players, there will be some nights when we will have good nights; there will be some nights when we have bad nights," said Pistons coach Maurice Cheeks. "Last night and tonight was not our best for sure. It was just not our best. We have to regroup, take our time and get ready for Cleveland."

Josh Smith led four Pistons scorers in double figures with 19 points and Greg Monroe recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Kyle Singler scored 12 and Will Bynum added 11 points for Detroit. Brandon Jennings handed out 10 assists.

The Pistons will visit Orlando and Washington after Christmas.

The Cavs have dropped three of their last four, although two of those losses came on the road, where they are just 2-12. Cleveland is 8-4 at Quicken Loans Arena.

On Saturday, the Cavaliers got pounded by the Chicago Bulls, 100-84 at the United Center. The Bulls took a 17-point lead into halftime and cruised over the final 24 minutes.

"I'm just disappointed that we can't lock in and do what is important consistently," said Cleveland head coach Mike Brown. "We are a young team trying to find its way, but hopefully this isn't going to happen again soon."

Andrew Bynum poured in a team-high 19 points and Kyrie Irving added 14 points on just 5-of-16 shooting for the Cavaliers. Jarrett Jack chipped in 11 points and Tristan Thompson and Matthew Dellavedova both finished with 10.

The Cavs will host the Atlanta Hawks after the holiday.

Detroit has won six straight against the Cavaliers, including all four last season. The Pistons are just 4-6 in their last 10 in Cleveland.
