NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Saturday, January 4th (All times Eastern)

Philadelphia 76ers (11-21) at Portland Trail Blazers (26-7), 10 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Portland Trail Blazers matched their franchise record for most 3-pointers made in one game last time out and will try for a third consecutive victory on Saturday with the Philadelphia 76ers in town.

On Thursday, against the Charlotte Bobcats, the Blazers poured in 21 3- pointers. That matched the team record they set on Dec. 14 against ... these same 76ers.

In their 134-104 win over the Bobcats, the Blazers became the first team in NBA history to make at least 20 3-pointers twice in the same season.

"It's good to be part of history and do something that hasn't been done before," said Portland head coach Terry Stotts.

They've converted eight or more from long range in eight straight, which is a franchise record.

Oh, and the win gave them 26, which is the most in the NBA.

Damian Lillard shot 6-of-6 from behind the arc and Wesley Matthews added five from long range. Lillard finished with 24 points and seven assists, Matthews netted 25 points and LaMarcus Aldridge donated 10 points and 15 rebounds in the club's second straight win.

"I'm not going to lie to you. I felt on when I woke up from my nap today," Matthews said.

Mo Williams scored 15 points and handed out 10 assists. Robin Lopez chipped in 14 and Will Barton managed 10 points.

The Sixers have tightened things up, not just since that Dec. 14 debacle, but also on the road. After losing the first two on this six-game road trip to run their road losing streak to 13, the 76ers have taken three straight on this trek west.

Philly knocked off the Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, and, on Thursday, dispatched the Sacramento Kings, 113-104.

Thaddeus Young had 28 points, six steals, seven rebounds and four assists against Sacramento. Over his last six games, Young has averaged 26.8 points.

"He's playing with a high level of confidence first, and then support it by his skill package that's getting better," Sixers head coach Brett Brown said of Young's play.

Evan Turner finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, while Tony Wroten netted 21 points for the Sixers.

Lavoy Allen and Spencer Hawes both finished with 10 points.

This matchup features the worst defensive team in Philadelphia, versus the league's top offensive unit in the Trail Blazers.

The Blazers have won four of their last five against the Sixers, who play five of their next six at home following Saturday's contest. Portland has taken three in a row as the host against Philly.
