NBA Game Summary - Denver at Golden State

(Wednesday, January 15th)

Final Score: Denver 123, Golden State 116

Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - J.J. Hickson grabbed a career-high 24 rebounds and supplied 13 points, including the first four of a game-closing 8-0 spurt that sent the Denver Nuggets to a 123-116 win over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday at Oracle Arena.

With Denver trailing 116-115 and just over a minute to play, Hickson buried a pullup jumper to put the Nuggets on top before stripping Stephen Curry at the other end and going coast-to-coast for a two-handed dunk and a 119-116 lead.

"Just a bad possession at the end, trying to do too much at the top of the key," Curry said of turning the ball over late. "Just a bad game all around."

Hickson was fouled on the play and missed the ensuing free throw, but Randy Foye came up with the offensive board with 44.9 seconds to play.

After wasting most of the shot clock, Ty Lawson misfired on a jumper, but Hickson skied for the offensive board and Lawson went 4-of-4 from the free throw line over the final 21 seconds to seal the outcome.

Lawson finished with 22 points and 11 assists, Nate Robinson registered 24 points off the bench, and Wilson Chandler chipped in 22 points and six boards for the Nuggets, who have won six of their last seven games.

"We stayed together," Robinson remarked. "Sometimes we give away close games like that. Tonight we grinded it out."

David Lee tallied 28 points and 11 boards, while Curry followed with 24 points, despite going 4-of-13 from 3-point range in the setback, Golden State's second in its last three games.

Denver closed the third quarter on a 10-0 sprint, capped by Evan Fournier's buzzer-beating, half-court heave, to take a 91-82 edge into the fourth, but the Warriors opened the final frame on an 11-3 swing to trim the margin to one with 9:12 to play.

The Nuggets knocked down a 3-pointer on each of their next three possessions, including consecutive triples from Robinson that pushed the lead to 103-95.

Robinson's pullup jumper with 3:44 left had Denver's lead at 113-105, but Curry countered with a trey that sparked an 11-2 Golden State surge that gave the home team a 116-115 lead with 1:13 remaining.

Denver shot a scorching 61.9 percent (26-of-42) from the field in the first half and outscored Golden State 19-6 in fastbreak points over the opening 24 minutes to take a 65-58 lead into halftime.

The Warriors remained within striking distance throughout the third, but were unable to jump in front until Harrison Barnes capped a 9-3 Golden State swing with a turnaround jumper that made it 82-81 with 2:07 left in the quarter.
