NBA Game Summary - New Orleans at Orlando

(Friday, November 1st)

Final Score: Orlando 110, New Orleans 90

Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Arron Afflalo led six Orlando players in double figures with 30 points on 10-of-14 shooting as the Magic entered the win column with a 110-90 rout of the New Orleans Pelicans at Amway Center.

Maurice Harkless had his best game of the young season for Orlando, netting 20 points to go with a team-high eight rebounds and four steals. Kyle O'Quinn added 14 points and four blocks off the bench, while Nikola Vucevic, Jameer Nelson and rookie Victor Oladipo all had 10 points.

"We played the way we wanted to," Harkless said. "We played well defensively and that's what really got us out to a big lead. We just have to be able to put games like this together on a nightly basis."

The Magic entered the contest winless despite playing well in a pair of road games. The Pacers fought from behind to best Orlando on opening night, and the Timberwolves escaped with a win in overtime on Wednesday thanks to a late Kevin Love triple in regulation.

The Pelicans fell to 0-2 despite the best efforts of former No. 1 overall pick Anthony Davis, who tallied 26 points and 17 rebounds. Jrue Holiday had 17 points and five assists and Anthony Morrow hit 4-of-4 from behind the arc, part of a 14-point effort.

"Obviously we didn't make shots tonight," Morrow said. "But we're not going to make shots every day, so we have to be able to defend and I think we were on our heels a lot tonight."

New Orleans kept it close early, trailing 22-20 after Brian Roberts hit a pull-up jumper late in the first period. The Pelicans grabbed seven offensive rebounds -- Davis was responsible for four of them -- and outscored Orlando 6-2 on second-chance points in the quarter.

Orlando led by seven midway through the second period when Harkless intercepted a Holiday pass, leading to a transition basket for Afflalo. Harkless added a pair of threes late in the frame to extend the Magic advantage to 53-33 with 19.8 seconds left before halftime. Eric Gordon's layup beat the buzzer to pull New Orleans to within 18.

The Pelicans were without sharpshooter Ryan Anderson, who is out 1-to-3 weeks with a chip fracture in a toe on his right foot. His absence was evident as New Orleans took just 12 3-pointers compared to 22 from Orlando. Both teams shot 50 percent from long range.

Davis converted an alley-oop from Holiday 3:38 into the second half to cut the Pelicans' deficit to 14 points, but Orlando scored the next six points to maintain a comfortable lead.
