NBA Game Summary - Detroit at Philadelphia

(Friday, January 10th)

Final Score: Detroit 114, Philadelphia 104

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Josh Smith stuffed the stat sheet and led seven Pistons in double figures with 22 points as Detroit snapped a six- game losing streak with a 114-104 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday.

Smith also contributed 13 rebounds, seven assists, five blocked shots and four steals despite shooting just 8-of-23. Brandon Jennings donated 19 points while Kyle Singler and Will Bynum netted 16 apiece off the bench. Greg Monroe added 15 points and 10 boards and Andre Drummond had an 11-point, 12-rebound double- double on top of a career-high six blocks.

Detroit, which outrebounded the Sixers 62-42, hadn't won since Dec. 23.

"Hopefully, this is a stepping-stone for us to get it going," said Pistons coach Maurice Cheeks

Thaddeus Young and Michael Carter-Williams dropped 22 and 21 points, respectively, as Philadelphia lost its third straight tilt on the heels of its season-high four-game winning streak. Evan Turner scored 16 points and Spencer Hawes tallied 16 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

The Sixers made their first five shots from the floor and led 12-2 two minutes into the contest. The lead ballooned to 19-4 before Smith hit a pair of triples to keep Detroit within striking distance. Philly hit 11-of-14 to start the game but struggled late in the period after going to its bench and led just 36-28 after 12 minutes.

Philly's lead fluctuated between eight and 13 points for the entire second quarter. The hosts took a 63-55 advantage into the break.

Detroit finally turned up the intensity early in the third period, embarking on a 15-2 surge to go in front. Jennings potted 3s nine seconds apart at the end of the run, the second of which at 8:51 gave the Pistons their first lead of the game at 70-69.

"They made a run we couldn't come back from," Turner said.

Young's layup in transition briefly restored Philly's lead, but Bynum and Jennings made consecutive treys and the Pistons never trailed the rest of the way.

The Sixers battled until the final buzzer, clawing within two points on six different occasions in the final frame, but the Pistons had an answer for every Philadelphia charge. After Young's putback made it 100-98 at 4:05, Drummond made a layup and blocked Carter-Williams on the other end to lead a run-out, which Jennings made the most of with another 3-pointer. Jennings made 6-of-6 from the line down the stretch to seal the outcome.
