NBA Game Summary - Detroit at LA Clippers

(Saturday, March 22nd)

Final Score: LA Clippers 112, Detroit 103

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Paul deposited 28 points with 15 assists to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to a 112-103 win over the Detroit Pistons on Saturday.

Paul picked up his 6,000th career assist in the win, but wanted to focus on other parts of the team rather than his career statistics.

"It's cool. I'll look back on it later," said Paul. "I'm focused on winning games and not individual accomplishments."

Blake Griffin scored 25 points, while Matt Barnes and Danny Granger each chipped in with 14 for LA, which won its sixth straight over the Pistons.

Jonas Jerebko had a team-high 22 points for Detroit, which lost for the 13th consecutive time on the road.

Andre Drummond recorded 16 points with 12 rebounds, while Josh Smith and Greg Monroe each scored 12 in the setback.

A Granger 3-pointer staked the Clippers to a 32-21 lead late in the first and they went up 36-26 after 12 minutes.

Jerebko bookended an 8-1 run to open the second quarter and cut the deficit to 37-34. He then hit another trey before Drummond converted an alley-oop from Will Bynum to give the Pistons their first lead of the game, 42-41, with 7:01 left.

Later in the stanza, Barnes hit a 3 after a Griffin slam to regain the lead for LA, but Kentavious Caldwell-Pope hit a jumper with 0.5 seconds left until half to make it a 56-55 Pistons deficit at the break.

"We had a poor second quarter so our coaches talked with us at halftime," said Griffin. "I was proud to see how we responded to start the second half."

The Clippers used an 18-3 run to open the third and push the halftime lead to 16. Griffin scored eight points during the run to help stake the hosts to a 74-58 lead with just over four minutes left.

Rodney Stuckey drilled a jumper to cap the scoring in the third as Detroit trailed 80-70 after three.

Monroe's layup with just under four minutes left in the fourth cut the deficit to six, but Paul followed a DeAndre Jordan free throw with a three-point play to seal it for LA.

"When we took care of the ball our movement was pretty good," said Pistons coach John Loyer. "We didn't move the ball to start the second half. They turned the pressure up defensively. That's what good teams do. We need to get better with that."

Game Notes

LA shot 45-of-83 from the field ... Jordan ripped down 12 boards ... Darren Collison scored 11 points in the win ... The Pistons edged the Clippers, 50-48, in the paint ... LA owned a 25-9 advantage on the fastbreak.
