NBA Game Summary - San Antonio at Atlanta

(Friday, January 24th)

Final Score: San Antonio 105, Atlanta 79

Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Duncan had 17 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks in 27 minutes of work as the San Antonio Spurs routed the Atlanta Hawks, 105-79, on Friday night.

Duncan and Tony Parker, who tallied 11 points and seven assists, didn't return after the Spurs had built a 77-50 cushion late in the third quarter.

Duncan tied Shaquille O'Neal (2,732) for seventh place on the all-time blocks list and equaled Allen Iverson for No. 20 spot on the all-time scoring list. San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich, meanwhile, tied Red Auerbach for 10th place (938) on the all-time wins list.

Boris Diaw netted 21 points and Patty Mills made six 3-pointers for the Spurs, who had dropped two of their last three coming in.

"The Hawks just had a tough night, nothing was going to drop. They've got good shooters and it wasn't going in," Popovich said. "We played very well tonight, one of our better games."

Paul Millsap registered 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals for Atlanta, which had won four of its last six tilts heading in.

"It was a very good performance by San Antonio, they did a lot of things well. It wasn't a good night for us on either end," Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer said.

Hawks point guard Jeff Teague exited in the second quarter due to a left ankle sprain and did not return.

Duncan scored the Spurs' first six points as they jumped out to a 6-2 lead. The Hawks netted the next five to go in front at the midway point of the opening frame, but Parker's runner gave San Antonio the lead right back.

The Spurs never trailed again. They closed the period on a 12-4 run to open up a 27-14 spread after one and led by double figures the rest of the way.

San Antonio took a 55-34 cushion into the break and an 84-56 advantage into the fourth.

Game Notes

Duncan's double-double was his 17th of the season ... Atlanta guard Kyle Korver netted his only points on a 3-pointer midway through the second quarter, which extended his NBA record to 111 consecutive games with a triple.
