NBA Game Summary - Philadelphia at Utah

(Wednesday, February 12th)

Final Score: Utah 105, Philadelphia 100

Salt Lake City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Alec Burks notched 26 points in a reserve role to help the Utah Jazz edge the Philadelphia 76ers, 105-100, from EnergySolutions Arena.

Gordon Hayward stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in Utah's third straight win heading into All-Star weekend. Marvin Williams tallied 13 points with a season-high 14 rebounds, while Enes Kanter and Richard Jefferson both contributed 12 points in the triumph.

"It wasn't our best game, execution-wise. But we had enough resiliency to win the ballgame," said Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin.

Burks and Hayward shot a combined 24-of-26 from the free throw line, while the Sixers made 18-of-23 as a team. Utah's reserves outscored Philadelphia's, 56-10.

"The bench struggled. We were outscored 56-10. We get down 14, I brought the starters back in before I normally do," said Sixers coach Brett Brown.

All five Philly starters reached double figures, with Evan Turner's 21 points leading the way in a losing effort. Thaddeus Young and Michael Carter-Williams each netted 19 and Spencer Hawes scored 16 with 11 boards.

Kanter scored four straight as part of a 6-0 Utah run late in the first quarter, breaking a 16-16 draw. The Jazz owned a 31-22 edge after 12 minutes and never trailed the rest of the way.

It was 56-48 at halftime and 60-50 early in the third quarter, but a furious Sixers rally tied it at 66-apiece with 3:53 to play in the frame. Philly mustered just three Young foul shots over the remainder of the period, as the Jazz regained a 78-69 margin.

The lead ballooned to 14 on Jefferson's steal and breakaway slam less than two minutes into the fourth. Another Philly rally, which Carter-Williams capped with a jumper and three-point play, tied the score at 91-all with 2:10 to play.

Once again, the Sixers' offense went cold. Burks made consecutive layups plus a free throw around a Turner missed jumper. Hawes then missed two straight and Burks added two more foul shots with a minute to play.

James Anderson, who scored 15 points on five 3-pointers, made three triples in the final 18.9 seconds, but it wasn't enough as Williams and Hayward both sank a pair at the charity stripe in the last 11 seconds to secure the outcome.

Game Notes

Jazz center Derrick Favors (right hip) left the contest after just 5:49 and did not return ... Utah shot just 3-of-16 from the arc ... Philly backup point guard Tony Wroten was held scoreless for the first time this season.
