Cavs, Celtics collide in Beantown

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Cavaliers will try to halt a four-game losing streak Friday night when they visit TD Garden to face the Boston Celtics.

The Cavs' most recent setback came Wednesday night at home to the Miami Heat, 95-84. The Cleveland bench accounted for 58 points, while the starters managed 26.

Dion Waiters, who is now the subject of trade rumors, scored a team-high 24 points. Kyrie Irving posted 16 points as the only starter in double figures. Anderson Varejao (10) and Earl Clark (13) also cracked the 10-point mark.

The Cavs are just 1-8 on the road this season and clearly they haven't lived up to the hype. Some projected the Cavs as a playoff team, but they've fallen well below expectations.

"I think everyone in this business should have expectations. You should have something you want to reach for. I'm okay with the expectations," head coach Mike Brown said after Wednesday's loss. "The one thing I've said all along was it's going to be a process. At times you see us making progress out there. I thought at times tonight we had some of the best spacing and drive and kick basketball that we had all year."

The Celtics had their two-game winning streak snapped with a 100-93 home loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday. It was Boston's fourth consecutive loss in Beantown.

"It's certainly not the atmosphere; the atmosphere has been great," said Celtics coach Brad Stevens. "At the end of the day we need to get better at home, we need to get better on the road, we need to become a better basketball team."

Boston only shot 42.7 percent from the field against Memphis.

Jeff Green had 26 points and Jared Sullinger finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Sullinger, who started at center, went 2-for-3 from behind the 3- point line.

"I don't think he shoots enough of them," Stevens said Sullinger's long-range prowess. "A lot of 3-point shooters aren't very good post players. So if he can continue to develop that part of his game, that could really help us."

Avery Bradley scored 16 and Brandon Bass pulled down 13 rebounds.

The Celtics and Cavs split four meetings last season, but Cleveland has dropped eight of its last 11 in Boston.
