Suns set for matchup with Wizards

(SportsNetwork.com) - In a season of unexpected greatness, the Phoenix Suns are a few days removed from their biggest win and will try to continue the momentum Friday night when they host the Washington Wizards.

On Wednesday, Gerald Green scored 23 points against his former team as the Phoenix Suns routed the Indiana Pacers, 124-100.

Green was a part of an offseason trade between the two teams that sent Luis Scola to the Midwest in exchange for Green, Miles Plumlee and a lottery protected first-round pick.

Goran Dragic scored 21 points, Markieff Morris contributed 20 off the bench, and P.J. Tucker added 13 for the Suns, who have won two straight and three of the last four games.

Plumlee had 11 points and Channing Frye chipped in 10 for the Suns.

"It is the first time we have played against those guys in this season," Dragic said. "I would not say that they underestimated us, but we just played good basketball. In one week we are going back to there place, so they will probably be ready for us."

Phoenix shot a blistering 54.2 percent from the floor and almost 70 percent (11-for-16) from behind the 3-point line. They forced 21 Indiana turnovers, which translated into 27 Suns points.

The Suns embark on a four-game eastern trip starting Sunday in Cleveland. They will also visit Philadelphia, Milwaukee and of course, Indiana, during the sojourn.

Washington is going the other way, beginning a four-game western trip in Phoenix on Friday. They'll also tangle with the Jazz, Warriors and Clippers while far from home.

The Wizards head on their trip the losers of two of their last three.

Gerald Wallace hit a layup with 2.9 seconds left in overtime to give the Boston Celtics a 113-111 victory Wednesday in Washington. It gave the Wiz an 0-5 record when trying to get past the .500 mark.

"We get to playing selfishly and it all starts with me," said guard John Wall. "That's the reason why we lost today."

Odd remark from someone who notched their second career triple-double in the game. Wall tallied 28 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the setback. Nene scored 17 points and Bradley Beal and Trevor Ariza finished with 14 apiece.

The Wizards had won four of five before the loss and are 10-10 outside of our nation's capital.

These two teams made a huge trade just before the season with the Wizards acquiring Marcin Gortat for a package that included an injured Emeka Okafor and a first-round draft pick.

"I just want to beat them bad," Gortat told the Washington Post, seemingly in jest to some degree. "No hard feelings. I was never mad at these guys when I was leaving. It's part of the game."

Washington has won the last two meetings between the two teams, but Phoenix took the 10 prior. The Wizards are 1-5 in their last six in Arizona.
