NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Friday, November 22nd (All times Eastern)

Cleveland Cavaliers (4-8) at New Orleans Pelicans (5-6), 8 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The New Orleans Pelicans have won two straight and will try to extend that streak Friday night when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers at New Orleans Arena.

The Pelicans started their run with a 135-98 demolishing of the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. Their second consecutive victory came with a 105-98 decision over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday.

Anthony Davis led the way for New Orleans with 22 points, nine rebounds and an astounding eight blocks. Jrue Holiday added 14 points and Jason Smith netted 11.

Ryan Anderson went 4-for-6 from 3-point range for 19 points and Tyreke Evans chipped in 13 points. All totaled, the Pelicans' bench contributed 45 points against Utah.

"It's nice to be able to plug guys in especially when the starters don't have their normal juice and I didn't think collectively the starters had it tonight," said Pelicans coach Monty Williams. "I wouldn't call it a luxury yet because we're a work in progress, but it was nice to be able to go to the bench."

Friday's contest wraps up a three-game homestand for the Pelicans.

The Cavs have dropped four of their last five, including a 98-91 home setback to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday. The Wizards were up by 27 at the 5:11 mark of the third quarter and the performance did not impress head coach Mike Brown.

"We didn't compete. We had one guy that competed the entire time he was on the floor. That's Matthew Dellavedova," Brown said. "I've got to find guys that are going to give it to me. It's as simple as that. We didn't play hard."

Dellavedova finished with nine points on 3-of-6 shooting from 3-point range.

Kyrie Irving led the way for the Cavs with 28 points, but the other four Cleveland starters - Earl Clark, Tristan Thompson, Andrew Bynum and C.J. Miles - combined for seven points. Miles strained his calf against the Wizards and won't play on Friday.

Dion Waiters returned to the lineup after illness and had 11 points. Jarrett Jack and Anderson Varejao both had 14 points off the bench, while Varejao grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Cleveland reserves accounted for 56 points.

New Orleans has won four of the last five against the Cavaliers and is 5-1 at home against Cleveland in the last six meetings.
