NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Wednesday, November 13th (All times Eastern)

New Orleans Pelicans (3-5) at Utah Jazz (0-8), 9 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Utah Jazz will once again try for that first victory of the season on Wednesday when they welcome the New Orleans Pelicans to EnergySolutions Arena.

Loss No. 8 came on Monday night when the Jazz got smoked in the fourth quarter against the visiting Denver Nuggets. Utah lost the frame 30-13 and lost the game 100-81.

Gordon Hayward led the way for the Jazz with 22 points, but he committed seven of Utah's 14 turnovers.

"I forced it a little bit tonight," acknowledged Hayward. "I have to keep my turnovers down and make better decisions."

Derrick Favors had 21 points and 13 rebounds, followed by 12 points from Enes Kanter.

The Jazz updated the injury status of Trey Burke, the team's future point guard. They announced that Burke has been cleared to begin solo basketball drills after surgery on Oct. 15 to repair a bone fracture in his right index finger.

Also on the point guard front for the Jazz, the team waived Jamaal Tinsley, who only averaged 1.1 ppg this season.

The Jazz's 0-8 start is their worst since going 0-11 in their inaugural 1974-75 campaign in New Orleans.

The current New Orleans team dropped its second in a row on Tuesday night when the Pelicans fell to the undermanned Los Angeles Lakers, 116-95 at the Staples Center.

"We just didn't go out there and play as hard as we had been playing," said Pelicans coach Monty Williams. "We had the same game plan against this team last week, and held them to 85 points. We've been up and down. We've played games like world beaters, and then we play games like tonight. I have to find groups that are going to play well together. We've just been up and down, inconsistent."

Eric Gordon led the way for New Orleans with 17 points, followed by 15 from Anthony Davis. That was nowhere near the production Davis gave the Pelicans against the Lakers last week when he went off for 32 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks.

Tyreke Evans was the only other Pelicans player in double figures with 11.

Backup center Greg Stiemsma injured his knee in the Lakers loss and his availability for Wednesday night is unknown. Newcomers Lou Amundson and Josh Childress should be ready to go and Amundson played against the Lakers.

The Pelicans have cracked the 100-point plateau in just one of their eight games and rank 21st in the NBA in scoring.

Utah won the last three meetings between the teams last season and has taken 11 of its last 13 at home against the New Orleans franchise.
