Tired Spurs visit Brooklyn

(SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs might feel a little fatigue on Thursday night, but the show goes on and it will go on at the Barclays Center when they take on the Brooklyn Nets.

The Spurs are in the midst of their annual Rodeo Trip, which spans nine games, every part of the United States and 18 days.

That would be enough reason for tired legs, but the Spurs played a double- overtime thriller on Wednesday night, winning 125-118 in Washington D.C. over the Wizards.

Tim Duncan poured in a game-high 31 points with 11 rebounds to help the Spurs to their 16th consecutive win over the Wizards.

Duncan fouled out early in the second overtime, but Patty Mills and Danny Green picked up the slack in his place. Mills finished with 23 points and Green contributed 22 points for the Spurs, who have won three straight, including the first two of the elongated trek.

Marco Belinelli chipped in 15 points off the bench. All-Star guard Tony Parker only scored four points before leaving the game with lower back tightness. Head coach Gregg Popovich ruled Parker out of Thursday's game.

The Spurs were down double-digits in the second half, but a Duncan bucket and a Mills 3-pointer forced overtime. San Antonio looked to be in good shape in the first extra session, but John Wall made a layup, then stole the inbounds pass and tied it with 1.9 seconds left.

The second overtime was all Spurs. Washington missed all 10 of its field-goal attempts to give San Antonio the hard-fought victory.

"That's one of the finest wins I've ever been associated with," Popovich said.

The Nets ended a three-game losing streak on Monday with a 108-102 home victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. The win also stopped a two-game slide in Brooklyn.

Paul Pierce made all 14 of his free throws and scored 25 points for the Nets in a game of swings.

The Sixers trailed by 15 in the first quarter, had a seven-point lead in the second and were down a game-high 19 in the third quarter. But they got within 104-102 after James Anderson made a 3-pointer from the right corner with 22.7 second left.

But Pierce made two foul shots and Shaun Livingston stole the ball when Sixers point guard Michael Carter-Williams flubbed a pass to Evan Turner at the other end. Livingston then sealed the win with two free throws.

Livingston's steal gave the Nets a season-high 15 in the game and he had a career-high seven.

"Shaun's amazing," said Mirza Teletovic, who made five threes and had 20 points for the Nets. "He just helps out in every position."

Deron Williams had 21 points for the Nets and Livingston scored 13 with eight assists.

The Spurs beat the Nets in San Antonio on New Year's Eve and have taken six in a row in the series. The Spurs have won three in a row and nine of the last 10 as the visitor.
