NBA Game Summary - Golden State at New Orleans

(Saturday, January 18th)

Final Score: Golden State 97, New Orleans 87

New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Steph Curry tallied 28 points and eight assists to guide the Golden State Warriors to a 97-87 win over the shorthanded New Orleans Pelicans from New Orleans Arena.

Curry also had six rebounds and four steals for the Warriors, who won for the sixth straight time in New Orleans. David Lee scored 22 points with eight rebounds while Andrew Bogut shot a perfect 5-of-5 for 10 points, 15 boards and five blocked shots to help Golden State shake a brief two-game losing skid.

"It was a big bounce back win for us. I thought the first half we were not as sharp, but the second half we regrouped, we battled defensively, and we took care of the basketball. It was just a quality win for us," said Warriors coach Mark Jackson.

Anthony Davis filled it up with 31 points and 17 rebounds in the Pelicans' eighth straight setback. New Orleans, which has been without Jrue Holiday and Ryan Anderson due to injury, got bad news prior to the game when big man Jason Smith was diagnosed with cartilage damage in his right knee.

"There will come a time when guys are all healthy, but we can't wait for that," Pelicans guard Austin Rivers said.

The visitors trailed by two at intermission but came alive after halftime. Curry made consecutive jumpers for a 60-58 Warriors' advantage, and New Orleans tied it on three straight trips before Klay Thompson's 3-pointer highlighted a 9-0 Golden State run for a 73-64 lead late in the third.

The margin was 12 when the Pelicans ran off 10 straight points spanning between the third and fourth quarters to pull back within two points, but Golden State's recent acquisition Jordan Crawford followed his jumper with a deep trey to keep the hosts at arm's length.

Bogut blocked three shots in the final four minutes and clinging to a six- point lead, Curry stole the ball from Davis with 37 seconds left to help preserve the victory.

Earlier, Davis scored 15 points in the first quarter to help New Orleans to a 29-24 edge. The lead grew to 11 points midway through the second but the Warriors closed the half on a 13-4 run to pull within 54-52 at halftime.

Game Notes

Lee reached double figures for the 118th straight game. His is the third longest such streak in the NBA, trailing just Kevin Durant and LeBron James ... Golden State shot 17-of-19 from the free throw line ... Tyreke Evans and Al-Farouq Aminu scored 14 and 12 points, respectively, for the Pelicans.
