Cleveland Cavaliers 2014 Draft Preview

Draft picks: 1st round (1st overall), 2nd round (33rd overall)

By Jim Brighters, NBA Editor

( - Can you believe the luck of the Cleveland Cavaliers?

For the second year in a row and third time in four years, the Cavs won the lottery. They will choose first overall in what might be the deepest draft in 10 years.

Whether you believe in the fantasy that the league is rewarding the Cavaliers for LeBron James bolting town, or just that Cleveland gets an incredible mulligan for the Anthony Bennett debacle last year, the Cavs are on the clock already.

Kyrie Irving, the No. 1 pick in the 2011 Draft, is the focal point of the organization. There are conflicting reports about whether either side wants to agree on a max contract, but there are no point guards worthy of the No. 1 pick, assuming the Cavs don't want him back. (Highly unlikely.)

This No. 1 choice comes down to three players - Duke's Jabari Parker, or either Kansas frontcourt player, center Joel Embiid, or Andrew Wiggins.

Small forward, or center would fill a need. The Cavs traded for both Luol Deng and Spencer Hawes during the course of the season, but neither are expected back in a Cleveland uniform.

It comes down to which of the three the Cavaliers like most.

Embiid is potentially a once-in-a-lifetime skilled big man, who immediately could walk into the NBA and become a ferocious defensive player. There are concerns with his back, however.

Wiggins has an amazing upside, too. He can become an incredible two-way player from day one.

Parker is actually the most NBA-ready of the trio.

The decision is a hard one, but at least the Cavaliers can't really go wrong. Any of the three fit a need and they all warrant the No. 1 pick in the draft.
