USA beats Finland by 59 in FIBA opener

Bilbao, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Klay Thompson scored a game-high 18 points and the United States dominated Finland from start to finish in a 114-55 rout in its FIBA World Cup opener.

A 29-2 differential in the second quarter summed up the lopsided affair. Finland missed all 17 shots it attempted in the frame while the Americans made all but four of their 17.

Anthony Davis chimed in with 17 points, while Derrick Rose and Rudy Gay netted 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the U.S., which is back in action Sunday against Turkey.

Shawn Huff and Petteri Koponen each scored 12 points for the overmatched Fins, who were invited to the tournament as a wild card. Cleveland Cavaliers forward Erik Murphy, Finland's lone NBA player, scored 10 points with a team-high seven rebounds.
