NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Sunday, April 6th (All times Eastern)

New Orleans Pelicans (32-44) at Portland Trail Blazers (49-28), 9 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Portland Trail Blazers try to get back into the win column when they resume a three-game homestand Sunday versus the New Orleans Pelicans at the Moda Center.

The Trail Blazers had a four-game winning streak stopped with Friday's 109-93 loss to Phoenix, as LaMarcus Aldridge and Robin Lopez each scored 18 points and Nicolas Batum added 13 points and 11 rebounds. Lopez pulled down 13 rebounds and Damian Lillard chipped in 15 points.

"I thought for the most part they just outhustled and outworked us," said Lopez. "I thought they definitely played with a little bit of urgency."

Aldridge reached 1,500 points for the second straight season.

Portland made 43 percent of its shots and committed 16 turnovers. It is fifth in the Western Conference -- two games behind Houston and 1 1/2 games ahead of Golden State.

Portland is 3 1/2 games ahead of Memphis and Phoenix with five to play.

The Blazers have a 27-10 home record and will close the residency Wednesday versus Sacramento.

New Orleans has lost four in a row since winning five straight and will wrap up a three-game road trip Sunday. It opened the trek with a 137-107 defeat at Denver, then dropped a 100-96 decision to Utah on Friday.

Anthony Morrow scored a game-high 26 points off the bench, while Brian Roberts and Greg Stiemsma netted 18 and 10 points, respectively, for the Pelicans, who shot a decent 47 percent and received just eight points, six rebounds and two blocks from Anthony Davis.

"Just a bad game from us as a team, collectively," New Orleans head coach Monty Williams said. "We played decent in the first half, but our third quarter was about as bad as we've seen this year. We certainly can't play like that on the road against any team."

The Pelicans are winless in their last three road games and 12-26 outside the Big Easy this season.

New Orleans has lost two of three meetings with Portland this season and is 3-7 in the previous 10 games in this series. The Blazers have won five straight and 10 of the last 13 matchups with New Orleans in the Rose City.
