NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Friday, March 21st (All times Eastern)

Denver Nuggets (31-37) at Dallas Mavericks (41-28), 8:30 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Dallas Mavericks look to get back on track during their franchise-high eight-game homestand Friday versus the Denver Nuggets.

The Mavericks are 1-1 on the 16-day stay with a win over Boston and a loss to Minnesota. In Wednesday's 123-122 overtime loss to the Timberwolves, Minnesota All-Star Kevin Love poured in 35 points, including the game-winner with 17.1 seconds left in overtime.

Dirk Nowitzki paced the Mavericks with 27 points, Monta Ellis scored 22 and Shawn Marion ended with 16 and 11 rebounds. Vince Carter had 14 points off the bench for Dallas, which had won three in a row and five of six games. The Mavs shot a decent 49.5 percent for the game, but their 16 turnovers led to 29 Minnesota points.

Dallas knew it was in a fight when it trailed 37-24 after the first quarter, but bounced back with a 35-29 edge in the second stanza. Minnesota scored 10 of the 19 points in overtime.

"Playing a first quarter like that on your home court in a game this meaningful is a bad sign for us right now," said Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle.

The Mavericks are 22-11 at home and will also host Brooklyn, Oklahoma City, Los Angeles (Clippers), Sacramento and Golden State. They are eighth in the West standings, 1 1/2 games ahead of Phoenix.

Denver enters Friday's matchup having won two in a row and four of five games, and is coming off Wednesday's 118-109 victory over Detroit.

Aaron Brooks had a monster night with 27 points, 17 assists and six rebounds, while Randy Foye followed with 22 points. J.J. Hickson ended with 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Nuggets, who made 51.2 percent for the game.

"We had good balance with everyone contributing on the boards against a good, physical team," said Nuggets coach Brian Shaw.

The Nuggets hope to stay balanced in Dallas and have a 13-21 mark on the road this season. They have won the first three meetings of the season with Dallas and last swept this series in 2008-09 (4-0).

Denver is 7-3 in its last 10 trips to Big D.

In injury news for the Nuggets, forward Wilson Chandler (hip) is questionable Friday and guard Ty Lawson (groin/sinus infection) is probable.
