NBA Game Summary - Golden State at San Antonio

(Friday, November 8th)

Final Score: San Antonio 76, Golden State 74

San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Tony Parker scored the final seven points for the Spurs as San Antonio narrowly got past the short-handed Golden State Warriors, 76-74, on Friday.

Patty Mills' triple with 8:23 in the fourth put San Antonio ahead 69-62, but no Spur other than Parker scored the rest of the way. The veteran point guard knocked down three jumpers over the next 5:09 but made just 1-of-4 from the foul line late to give the Warriors a chance.

"Tony (Parker) made some huge buckets to keep that lead when we were dry," said Spurs guard Manu Ginobili "It was a win. It counts the same as it you win by 30."

Klay Thompson hit a corner three and David Lee rolled to the basket for a layup with 3:57 left to bring Golden State within two.

The lead stayed at two late when Tiago Splitter grabbed the offensive rebound off Kawhi Leonard's 3-point miss. Splitter got the ball to Parker, who was fouled immediately, but he missed a pair at the line with 16.4 seconds remaining.

The final inbounds pass went to Andre Iguodala at the top of the key. Iguodala penetrated and got off a leaner, but it rimmed out and the Spurs survived.

"Were two teams that lay a solid foundation of solid defensive principles," said Golden State coach Mark Jackson. "It was a grind out there. It was tough to score on both sides."

The Warriors were without star point guard Steph Curry, who missed the contest with a bone bruise in his ankle. Toney Douglas played nearly 28 minutes in his absence, netting a game-high 21 points on 8-of-14 from the floor and 5-of-9 from behind the arc. Lee added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Parker and Leonard were the lone Spurs in double figures with 18 and 13 points, respectively.

San Antonio took a 64-55 lead into the fourth quarter after Marco Belinelli drained a triple with 1:21 left in the third and Aron Baynes finished a reverse layup in the final minute.

Earlier, the Spurs went up 11 on a set of Parker free throws midway through the opening quarter. They pushed the lead to 12 in the second but Iguodala's layup pulled Golden State within seven at halftime.

"Overall, they're a hard team to guard, so I thought the defense was some of the better defense we've played this year," said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. "We certainly couldn't put it in the basket, so the defense was really important for us tonight."

Game Notes

The Warriors never led ... Parker shot just 4-of-10 from the foul line as the Spurs hit 9-of-18 as a team ... Andrew Bogut pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds ... The Spurs improved to 5-1 on the season and 3-0 at home.
