NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Saturday, December 14th (All times Eastern)

San Antonio Spurs (18-4) at Utah Jazz (6-19), 9 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs will head west for a four-game road trip, starting with Saturday's meeting with the Utah Jazz.

The Spurs are 9-2 away from the Alamo City and will also visit the Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors. They have won three in a row on the road.

San Antonio is unbeaten in its last three games overall and recorded a 117-110 triumph versus the Minnesota Timberwolves Friday night. Wolves star Kevin Love did all he could to propel his team to victory with 42 points and 14 rebounds.

Tony Parker countered with 29 points and Manu Ginobili added 20 off the bench for the Spurs, who shot 55.2 percent from the field and received 19 points from Kawhi Leonard. Tim Duncan posted 12 points and 14 boards in the win.

The Spurs, winners in 16 of the last 19 games, had a 37-21 advantage in the fourth quarter, when Ginobili registered 16 points.

"Manu's play, Tony's play, they all have great energy," Duncan said. "We didn't play a great three quarters but Manu hit some big shots, I thought Kawhi was great as well and obviously Tony has been carrying us all year."

San Antonio is fifth in the NBA with 103.5 points per game and is one of the stingiest on defense, allowing just 93.6 ppg.

Utah is averaging 93.7 ppg and will try to extend its modest winning streak to a season-high three games Saturday. It will be difficult to do against the reigning Western Conference champions.

The Jazz have won two in a row since a four-game slide and recorded a 103-93 victory at Denver Friday night, as Gordon Hayward pumped in 30 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and handed out five assists. Derrick Favors scored 19 points and Richard Jefferson netted 14 for Utah, which shot 45.2 percent.

"Through all of our struggles they just keep working. We'll get better because of that," Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said.

After hosting the Spurs Utah will open a five-game road trip against Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, Charlotte and Memphis.

The Jazz have lost three in a row in Salt Lake City and are 3-9 at home.

San Antonio defeated the Jazz, 91-82, on Nov. 15 in Salt Lake City and has won nine of 11 and 13 of the past 19 matchups between the teams.
