NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Wednesday, November 13th (All times Eastern)

New York Knicks (2-4) at Atlanta Hawks (4-3), 8 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Knicks will try to shake off Sunday's embarrassing loss to the San Antonio Spurs Wednesday night when they visit the Atlanta Hawks.

The Knicks got demolished in Madison Square Garden, 120-89.

"We didn't compete and that's just unacceptable," said Knicks coach Mike Woodson.

The Knicks allowed 35 points in the first quarter and managed just 17. They were down 30 points after three quarters and the Spurs rested players as they cruised to victory in the fourth.

Carmelo Anthony and Andrea Bargnani were the leading scorers with 16 points apiece. Metta World Peace chipped in 13 points and Tim Hardaway, Jr. scored 11.

With Tyson Chandler sidelined several weeks with a small non-displaced fracture of his right fibula, the Knicks got a familiar face back in the form of the reigning Sixth Man of the Year.

J.R. Smith played in his first game of the season on Sunday. He sat out five games for a failed drug test and he looked rusty. Smith shot 1-for-9 and managed just five points.

Woodson, who coached the Hawks for six seasons, said on Tuesday that he might tinker with the starting lineup.

"I'm searching to try to get a unit that starts the game on a good note," said Woodson. "I'm hoping we don't start the game where we're down 15, 20 points right off the bat. That defeats the purpose of practicing and doing all the things we try to do to prepare for a game."

Woodson also said Amare Stoudemire would miss the Hawks game.

Atlanta is on a two-game winning streak with a home victory over the Orlando Magic on Saturday and a 103-94 road win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Monday night.

Against the Bobcats, Al Horford was awesome with 24 points. Jeff Teague had his fourth straight double-double with 14 points and 12 assists, followed 16 off the bench from Cartier Martin.

Kyle Korver scored 11 points on 3-for-5 shooting from beyond the arc. He has made a 3-pointer in 80 straight games and that is the second-longest streak in NBA history. Dana Barros owns the mark of 89 consecutive games.

"It was a good win on the road, another step forward by our defense and we got another great job by our bench to come in and give us a boost," said Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer.

The Atlanta bench combined for 40 points on Monday as the Hawks held the Bobcats to 16 points in the third quarter.

The Knicks swept all three of last season's meetings with Atlanta and have taken seven of the last eight. New York has taken five of its last seven in Atlanta.
