NBA Game Summary - Detroit at Miami

(Tuesday, December 3rd)

Final Score: Detroit 107, Miami 97

Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Singler led seven Pistons in double figures with 18 points, and Detroit snapped Miami's 10-game winning streak with a 107-97 victory at American Airlines Arena.

The Heat hadn't lost since Nov. 9 at home against Boston on a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Jeff Green. Miami played Tuesday without star guard Dwyane Wade, who was held out due to knee soreness.

Greg Monroe and Rodney Stuckey both added 16 points for the Pistons, who have posted back-to-back triumphs. Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith posted 15 points, while Andre Drummond totaled 10 points and 18 rebounds before fouling out in the game's final minute.

LeBron James and Michael Beasley scored 23 points for the two-time defending NBA champions, who lost to the Pistons for just the third time in the last 17 matchups.

The Pistons came into the game first in the NBA in two major categories -- steals and points in the paint. They utilized those two parts of their game to win Tuesday. Detroit came up with 11 steals, four from Jennings and converted 19 Miami turnovers into 29 points.

Additionally, the Pistons held a 60-48 scoring advantage in the paint. Detroit came into the contest averaging 51.2 points in the paint.

"The strength on our team is down low," Singler said. "Hopefully you would like to see a high field goal percentage. We did that tonight. We scored a lot of points and we also played decent defense."

Down 82-68 going into the fourth quarter, the Heat trailed by as many as 17 in the final frame, but rallied within 91-88 on James' jam midway through the period. James and Chris Bosh both missed potential tying 3-point shots. In fact, Miami was held without a field goal for nearly a 4-minute span until Beasley's layup with 2:39 left.

That made the score 98-91. In between, the Pistons widened the gap on a Jennings 3-ball, two Stuckey free throws and a dunk from Smith.

Miami wasn't closer than seven the rest of the way.

A sloppy first quarter by the Heat yielded a 28-18 deficit for the hosts after 12 minutes. Miami turned the ball over eight times, leading to 10 points.

After Bosh started the game by sinking a jumper, the Pistons scored the ensuing nine points and then built the lead to double digits when Singler drained a 3-pointer for a 20-10 difference with 3:38 left.

"We definitely don't want to play from behind," James said. "We have to do a better job of coming into the game, being a little more aggressive and not shooting as many jump shots."

Drummond's offensive rebound off a Jonas Jerebko miss led to a layup and a 36-18 margin. The Pistons were ahead 54-43 at the half.

Singler scored 10 during the third quarter, when the Pistons made 60 percent of their shots.

Game Notes

Detroit had lost five straight at Miami ... Bosh had 14 points, two more than Ray Allen ... The Pistons shot 51.3 percent to Miami's 43.9 ... Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 10 points for Detroit, which held a 46-34 edge on the glass.
