NC State coaching candidates showcased in NCAA Tournament
Posted March 15
Wolfpack fans who want a sneak peek at the next men's head basketball coach would do well this week to watch the NCAA Tournament.
Although North Carolina State is not in the field, several of the men mentioned as that university's next coach are. The South region has three potential candidates, and two face each other in one game.
Butler's Chris Holtmann and Winthrop's Pat Kelsey square off Thursday at 1:30 p.m. (on TNT). Kelsey is a former Wake Forest assistant under Skip Prosser.
On down the bracket, Archie Miller leads Dayton against Wichita State Friday (7:10 p.m. on CBS). Is State the dream job for Miller or is it Ohio State? Gregg Marshall, the coach of Wichita State, is a hot prospect, but he's probably not a candidate for State.
Keep an eye in the West where VCU plays Thursday at 7:20 p.m. (TBS). The Rams are led by Will Wade.
In the East, UNC-Wilmington meets Virginia (Thursday at 12:40 p.m., TNT). Kevin Keatts is a candidate that NC State has discussed. The Seahawks are a fast-paced team that scores 85 points per game, 10th best in the nation. The Colonial champs gave Duke a run in last year's NCAA Tournament, and they returned a lot of the same guys who played in that game.
