In the second scrimmage of the preseason, the men competing for the starting quarterback job at North Carolina State University got to take hits for the first time.
It was the first time that new Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren got to evaluate the competition in close-to-game situations. "We ran enough today where we could see if they could do it or not," Doeren said.
Junior Pete Thomas and Arkansas transfer Brandon Mitchell are vying for that starting spot. Both quarterbacks are still learning the system introduced by Doeren in his first year in Raleigh. Thomas does have the advantage of a spring session under his belt while Mitchell is still learning on the fly.
Curry and Peppers both played for UNC basketball.- Posted by jgunnThe Ronald Curry and Darian Durant alternating system was fun to watch and worked. I can't immagine being the OQ or QB Coach up in the box, unless they both ran the same exact plays, and each could check to their individual strengths. Curry ended up as a reciever in Oakland and got a career ending injury I think. Now he's an Offensive assistant for the Niners. Durant has done OK in the CFL, and still plays for Saskatchewan. This is fine football weather a month early!- Posted by Euro American
I was thinking about the Curry/Durant QB tandem that Bunting used as well. It can be tough because when a players gets in a rhythm, you don't want to pull him.
I didn't know about Curry's injury - hate to hear that. Didn't he play for the basketball team part of a season?
Agree about this weather! I wish it would stay this way. Who needs 90-degree days when you can get this fall weather - in August!
