NC State's Barber sustains concussion during practice

Posted October 2, 2013

Freshman point guard Anthony “Cat” Barber sustained a concussion during NC State’s basketball practice on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

His status for return to basketball competition is day-to-day.

Barber, a McDonald’s All-American last year out of Newport News, Va., is being held out of practice and is being evaluated under NC State’s concussion protocol within the supervision of the school’s athletic training staff and team physicians.

The injury occurred during a loose-ball scramble on Tuesday, near the end of the team’s first official workout. He collided with sophomore teammate T.J. Warren, who came away from the play without injury.

The point guard injured his left foot during a pick-up game over the summer, Barber said Monday that he was not back at 100% since the injury and labeled himself at 95%.

Barber, widely regarded as one of the top point guards in the 2013 class, is expected to be a key contributor to the Wolfpack this season. NC State will update his status pending the results of his ongoing concussion testing.

Hope he gets well soon. I hear he is great at defense...especially with steals...just ask the Louisville players from his official visit there...

Hate to see injuries, but love that these guys are going after it in practice. Hope he gets well and learns to protect himself. Can't wait to see him in action as his recruiting film is pretty incredible. Might be the quickest player in the league.
