NC State's Byrd granted 6th year of eligibility

Posted March 14

Jarvis Byrd (14) tackles Bra'Lon Cherry (13) during the NC State Spring Game on April 20, 2013 in Raleigh, NC.

— NC State safety Jarvis Byrd has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA, the school announced Friday.

Byrd, who missed all of the 2010 and 2011 seasons with separate ACL tears, suffered a third torn ACL in the fifth game of the 2013 campaign and had to sit out the final seven contests.

"This is great news for a young man who has overcome so much adversity," said head coach Dave Doeren. "Jarvis is a great leader for our team and his experience will be invaluable to us."

Byrd, a Pahokee, Fla., native, has played in 14 career contests, starting eight.

Glad to hear it, but not sure how much good he will do. After 3 ACL tears, there is no way you can go all out on those legs
