Raleigh, N.C. — NC State safety Jarvis Byrd has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA, the school announced Friday.
Byrd, who missed all of the 2010 and 2011 seasons with separate ACL tears, suffered a third torn ACL in the fifth game of the 2013 campaign and had to sit out the final seven contests.
"This is great news for a young man who has overcome so much adversity," said head coach Dave Doeren. "Jarvis is a great leader for our team and his experience will be invaluable to us."
Byrd, a Pahokee, Fla., native, has played in 14 career contests, starting eight.
