NC State's Howell named ACC Player of the Week

Posted January 14, 2013

North Carolina State’s Richard Howell averaged a double-double in a pair of wins for the No. 14 Wolfpack last week and on Monday, was rewarded by being named the ACC Player of the Week.

In a 84-76 upset of then-No. 1 Duke, Howell poured in 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting and pulled down 18 rebounds – one shy of his career high. It was Howell’s 22nd double-double of his career and ninth this season. NC State upends Duke, 84-76 Slideshow: NC State upends Duke, 84-76

Howell’s week started nearly as well as it ended as he filled the stat sheet in a win over Georgia Tech. On Wednesday he scored six points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished two assists, blocked two shots and registered a steal.

NC State (14-2) is 3-0 in ACC play for the first time since the 1988-89 season and is currently riding a 10-game win streak.

Boston College freshman Olivier Hanlan was honored with the Rookie of the Week ager averaging 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3.5 steals in two conference road games.

This one sounds like a blast on Howell. The WRAL people will watch you after this one. Howell is a great player. He has kept State in the win column.

State should beat MD after the way MD has played lately. They played at Miami and the U slowed it down. It worked. UVA likes to slow it down and it hasn't worked lately. WF beat UVA, and UVA beat UNC. Funny game. VT even slipped up and beat GT with 7 players.
