Ex-NC State coach Lowe arrested on tax charges

Wake Forest, N.C. — Sidney Lowe, former head men's basketball coach at North Carolina State University, was arrested Monday on charges that he failed to file state tax returns in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Lowe, who coached the Wolfpack from 2006-2011, is currently an assistant coach with the NBA's Utah Jazz. At the time of his departure from State, he was making $500,000 per year.

He maintains a home in Wake Forest.

The 53-year-old Lowe faces three misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file a North Caroline Individual Income Tax Return and was placed under a $10,000 unsecured bond. A court appearance was scheduled for March 19.

A Jazz spokesperson told The Salt Lake Tribune Monday that the team is aware of the arrest but did not have any comment.

Lowe, a member of the 1983 national championship team at NC State, held an 86-78 overall career coaching record at his alma mater, including a 25-55 mark in the ACC.

Lowe never topped the 20-win mark and never earned more than six wins in the ACC or finished above ninth place in the league.

Who knew SL was a Republican? He is just a step ahead of Gov.McCrory in doing away with NC income taxes.

When Lowe'son was charged w/home invasion and drug dealing, relatives were quoted as blaming it on his being in "that environment" (i.e. an HBCU), rather than acknowledging Lowe's son inherent character deficit. Many students of more dire financial circumstances attend HBCUs and don't participate in such despicable acts. So maybe Sidney Lowe's behavior can be explained away by his being in "that environment" (i.e. greed for more when you earn too much)

They arrested him for this???? Nobody else in NC has failed to pay taxes? I guess somebody is trying to make a point but, other than illustrating that NC is still racist, I have no idea what that point is. Sure, he should have paid, but why the big deal? We've had governors more crooked than this guy. Good god, ya'll.

WOW, Really!! I know of many whom havent filed taxes for over 12 years( child support cases). I've even sent a letter and completed an IRS inquiry form to report these non-filers. What was done, absolutely nothing!!! But now you want to blast a AfricanAmerican Coach who 'coache'd for a very prominent college? WOW, Really! Bring the Black man down, as society always have!
